Re ski equipment, this is much worse than before. They always allowed oversized ski equipment. The old rule did not mention that you can’t put clothes or other items in the ski bag. Now they explicitly say you can’t put anything other than ski equipment and they have the right to check. So this is much worse and subjective.
I’ve been a Marriott member since 2002, and I don’t recall ever hearing about this benefit – so, basically, no big deal!
It was a Starwood benefit, which is probably why you hadn’t heard of it
