Marriott’s Uber Partnership Devaluation Details: Fewer Points, New Perks—What To Know Before October 14

Marriott recently updated its terms and conditions for its Uber partnership, removing details of how many points you earn and referring you to their partnership page for that instead. It seemed pretty clear that they’d be updating points-earning with their Uber partnership. Now those details are live.

  • You’ll earn fewer points ordering Uber Eats while staying with Marriott, and devaluing Uber Eats-earning when not staying with Marriott as well
  • They’re adding points-earning for pre-reserving Uber rides
  • But you can earn Marriott Silver status through the partnership

Currently, you earn:

  • 6 points per dollar on Uber Eats ($40 minimum order) when delivering to a Marriott hotel, and 2x when delivering elsewhere.
  • 3x on premium rides: UberXL, Uber Comfort, Uber SUV, and Uber Black.

Effective October 14th,

  • Just 1 point per dollar on Uber Eats with no minimum order, but you’ll earn 2 points per dollar when delivering to a Residence Inn, TownePlace Suites, or Element Hotel.
  • 3x on premium rides remains in place
  • 2x on pre-scheduled UberX rides (new)

And if you subscribe to Uber’s monthly paid Uber One discount program you get Marriott Silver status, which along with $6 should let you buy a carton of eggs in most states. Marriott is also integrating Uber Reserve booking into the Bonvoy app.

Is it weird to say I miss just earning Starwood points for Uber rides?

  1. I stopped using Uber Eats after they delivered my food in an unsealed bag, with somebody else’s drink having spilled all over it, and the response I got from some Indian was

Thank you for contacting us. We want to make this right. I know how unpleasant it must be to receive food in this condition. We have made a note to the restaurant. It is our goal to ensure safe and fast order delivery. We appreciate your business.

I simplified that from a 6 paragraph screed.
