The Skytrain at Miami International Airport which makes it easier to traverse to long D concourse that houses American Airlines had an accident last night.
A train derailed at 2 a.m. during a maintenance run. No passengers were onboard.
Two of the four cars involved were damaged.
“One car went onto the roof of Concourse D and the other car is off the rail,” Miami-Dade aviation spokeswoman Suzy Trutie said in an email update.
An employee was onboard but wasn’t hurt. The Skytrain is currently shut down, making connections more arduous and the need to clear security at the closest checkpoint more important.
The long corridors of MIA
American has Admirals Clubs near gates D15 and D30. The D15 club is open during renovations. There’s also the former American Airlines club, now a oneworld premium lounge, on the E concourse which is connected airside to the D concourse. It’s open to Admirals Club members that are departing from E concourse gates, and oneworld elites (as well as premium cabin passengers of oneworld airlines other than American).

The lack of operating Skytrain may be most inconvenient for passengers wishing to use the American Express Centurion Lounge near gate D14 who are departing from gates which aren’t nearby. (Although it might also make that lounge less crowded!)
