News and notes from around the interweb:
- President Obama has favored Franklin Barbecue in Austin. Controversially, he cut the line there. Michelle Obama, on the other hand (and for all of her focus on healthy eating), chose Micklethwait Craft Meats for barbecue while in town to speak at South By Southwest this year. Incidentally road closures during her visit made it difficult for me to get to the gym…
- The FAA reauthorization bill, as it currently stands, has a kind of sort of version of the Families Fly Together Act included.
If the current version of the bill passes, airlines will be required to notify families if adjoining seats are available for free when they’re booking. If they aren’t available for free, the airline will have to notify the family about the airline’s policy regarding booking consecutive seats for an additional fee or if seats are assigned at check-in.
Nothing about assigning these seats for free. I called an earlier version of the Act idiotic. Here’s how families can actually sit together.
- Chipotle employee fired for criticizing the company on twitter really likes his new American Airlines union job. (Not The Onion)
- Register to earn double Starwood points when dining at one of their hotels while not staying as a guest through June 15. (HT: Loyalty Lobby)
- Virgin Atlantic feels sharp criticism on social media over alleged anti-Chinese racist incident
- British Airways Johannesburg – London flight flooded when a trolley smashed into a water pipe. Blankets all over the floors was the least of their problems. (HT: Tocqueville)
- Is it weird that I was just ridiculously excited getting this piece of junk mail on Thursday… and had to remind myself of all the reasons that – no – I cannot process my own mileage-earning credit card transactions to myself?
Nice roundup. I do think it’s silly to mention “controversy” about the president not standing in line for hours to get food. As to the processing your own credit cards, I have to admit I’d considered doing so myself. Why can’t you?
9.99% is a great rate!
Also, gotta love that Chipotle story. James said “he’d be willing to accept his food benefit in meal vouchers from Chipotle’s.”
lol
what do obama and his wife’s preferences on bbq sauce have to do with travel?
@steven k – i write about food, eating while traveling, traveling for food, and barbecue all the time. definitely core to my interests, hence to the blog
How is that EMS offer not the best thing ever? Buy any point for a max price of 0.99 cents. Any SPG 1:1 transfer partner mile can be had for 0.80 cents. I must be missing something. Anyway, I’m off to the EMS website now!
Gary has been unfairly criticized on this site for just just about everything
but I have to say, there is NO WAY MICHELLE OBAMA PREVENTED OR INTERRUPTED YOU FROM GETTING TO THE GYM!!!!!! I wont call you a liar, but maybe an excuse generator.
Just admit you were busy at the Wendy’s on MLK and the drag chowing on a triple cheeseburger and watching the college girls –and we’ll forgive you. This time.
I ran on the treadmill beside my desk.
Well, better than me. Mine has become the World’s most expensive towel rack
