This past Saturday a 38-year-old man tried to travel to Simferopol International Airport in Crimea on Ural Airlines flight 525 from Moscow’s Domodedovo Airport wearing nothing at all. Other passengers, strangely, just proceeded to board as though nothing was out of the ordinary.

Airport police though weren’t so sanguine, they chased the man and ultimately subdued him on the jet bridge where he was arrested and, according to Russia’s Interior Ministry, hospitalized.

The man argued he had a perfectly valid reason for flying naked: he yelled that “clothing impairs the aerodynamics of the body” and that he flies “with more agility when undressed.” I’m not sure he realizes that it’s the plane that does the flying and so his ability to fly with agility is rather beside the point when he’s on an airplane.

Other passengers though say he appeared to be “sober and completely lucid.”

In a statement issued by the Presse Service of the Interior Ministry says the man “was taken to the airport’s medical room and then was hospitalized in a medical facility. The departure of the 736 mile flight was delayed just 15 minutes.
