I rented 2 Avis cars this weekend. One registration expired 6/2022. The other had no registration card in the glove box. With low inventory across rental companies and a need to drive my own car, I had no choice. Sure HERTZ had rentals but I’d rather get ticketed for expired reg than ARRESTED FOR GRAND THEFT AUTO!!!!
He’s not out a thousand buck for the AirBNB – we all know you can dispute that transaction if the company won’t make it right.
We had issue with Avis this past Friday Sept. 23 at O’Hare. They tried to give us a car with a temporary plate that had expired 9/18/22. I refused to take that car. The employee there said it’s not a problem. I insisted on them giving me another vehicle. And they did.

To Daniel’s point, don’t think Airbnb is simply going to hand over the rental payment to the scammer immediately and the money is gone with the wind. Something doesn’t sound right with this story. Maybe the rental was fake but the guy didn’t lose his payment.
Can we just stop with the Tik Tok stuff, it’s like an IQ killer. “Like I was going to travel and stuff and like I was going to rent a car and stuff and like there was some guy in my seat so I didn’t know what to do since I’ve never traveled on a plane before and like…”.

they give you a car with expired plates then just take the plates off the car before you return it If they ask tell them what plates? The police took them when they stopped me because they expired.

plates belong to the state so you may be charged with theft
The fact is expired tags are extremely common among motorists and you can pass any tickets to the rental car company so I wouldn’t sweat it.
If pulled over just tell the officer it’s a rental and show your rental agreement.
I would just dispute my cc charge with AVIS, no way in hell I’m paying those tickets!
