It seems that the issues with booking premium class is and has been an on going issue with Alaska and EK. Strange especially since the partnership from what I hear is working well. Let alone the fact that your talking about a a higher than average point schedule.
I just came back from a BA trip with points and the “surcharge” which was not too bad since we got the exact flights and class we wanted. BA FC is horrible. (787-9)
Can’t imagine an issue really for almost everyone, since Alaska increased the number of miles required for an EK award to an eye-watering, astronomical amount. I was told by a chatty Alaska agent they are hardly handling any EK redemptions since the increase.
