News and notes from around the interweb:
- FAA Ends Commercial Space Astronaut Wings Program just as commercial space tourism is on the cusp of being real, you no longer get an astronaut pin when you do it.
- In addition to Oman Air, Air Canada Aeroplan is adding Air Mauritius as a partner. That means you’ll be able to spend your miles for travel combining airlines (Star Alliance and non-Star Alliance alike) into a single award, using their existing award pricing, and include travel on Air Mauritius. Win!
These awards should be bookable online. Mileage accrual (but not elite status credit) is available with Oman Air as well. Points-earning for Air Mauritius flights is expected to start ‘early’ next year.

- St. Louis isn’t a dying aviation city after all…
Lufthansa, STL-Germany. I'd give credit to the original source, but seems like tweet is now zapped.
Regardless, surprise great news for STL. https://t.co/osGQNCWfUP

- I know we’re beyond focusing on surface transmission, but still.. rolling around the floor of a Southwest Airlines aircraft?
Lufthansa is getting $5 million in subsidies from St. Louis, a city that is bankrupt and has the third-highest murder rate in the entire world.
@FNT Delta .
So .. did St Louis break up with you or something? Seriously, you spent all day dogging on it on OMAAT…. now here (and factually incorrectly).
AND YOU LIVE IN FLINT!!!!!! AND LIKE DETROIT!
Southwest Airlines Cancellation Policy. Do you want to cancel a ticket with Southwest Airlines,+1-877-311-7484
Southwest Airlines always makes efforts to deliver the utmost comfort and convenient flight experience to each and every individual who is flying through this. Even to make it easy for all the passenger to avail the services, the airline provides a number of services which can be availed here on the website including Southwest Airlines Cancellation Policy.
why in the heck would an airline passenger roll around on the floor of an airplane while it’s in the air? Is this to purposely do what I think they’re trying to allegedly do to other passengers?
@DB..what are you jibba jabbering about?
@FNT Delta …
Where is Lufthansa getting $5 million in funding from if you know?
It’s behind a paywall, but the $5M subsidy is contingent on maintaining 3 nonstop flights per week, and it is documented in the local St. Louis paper: https://e-edition.stltoday.com/st-louis-post-dispatch/20211215/281642488479205
That said, subsidies for new long haul service like this isn’t exactly unusual. STL has a TON of available capacity, and the city has pined for getting traffic coming in and out for years.
2.5 million coming from local businesses buying tickets on Lufthansa
2.5 million coming from airport fund which part of St. Louis county helped raised that
500k from waived landing fees

I’d expected from the headline that it would be one adult throwing a tantrum about who was upset at a flight attendant over masks/seat belts/alcohol/middle seats/the snack selection/etc., but this one feels worse somehow… maybe because they aren’t behaving irrationally on purpose? Maybe because there appears to be at least three people who are legally adults who see no problem with this? But COVID cleaning or no, mass transit floors are some of the grossest surfaces you’ll find outside of college dorms or old over-capacity military facilities…
