September Frequent Traveler University Dates Announced!

We’re ready to announce initial details of this fall’s Frequent Traveler University.

April’s Northern Virginia event is already a sell out with expected attendance of 650 people — the largest frequent flyer event ever. We’ve already seen ticket scalping of the event, with posted offers of $200+ (!!).

Before anyone cashes in all of their Amex and Chase points for a black market ticket to April’s fTU, we wanted to make folks aware of the next opportunity to attend the frequent flyer event of the season..

It will be held at the Grand Hyatt Tampa Bay, September 27-29.

You’ll hear from speakers like Lucky of One Mile at a Time and Brian Kelly a.k.a. The Points Guy, as well as Mommy Points and Randy Petersen (and me as well).

Tickets are now available for purchase. (As always, tickets are non-refundable, but are transferable)

The $100 price includes a Friday evening cocktail and canapes reception, all Saturday and Sunday events, plus lunch on both weekend days. The event is priced to cover event costs, though if we’ve figured it right there will be some leftover funds which wind up donated to charity.

There will be a group rate for the hotel made available in the coming days. That link will also offer double Gold Passport points.

You can follow along at the Milepoint.com discussion for this event.

  1. Excellent, great location for that time of the year. So, hello to FTU-TPA, is in order?

  2. @Gary, @Julian I have a feeling that hurricane streak is going to be broken this year 🙂

Seriously though, it doesn’t take a direct hurricane impact to cause serious disruptions. And the weather during that time is just awful. I’m all for having it in Florida since I can just drive, but it wouldn’t have been my first choice for this time of the year.

  3. Unbelievable…there’s always something to complain about. I think September in Tampa sounds wonderful…I’ll be there.

  4. @Papa Smurf
There are weather issues everywhere. The odds of a hurricane hitting that same weekend are extremely low.

    @Gary
Small detail, but in the ticket attachment under “preliminary progam” it lists the dates as April 26-28.

  5. There’s been some insinuation by a frugal traveller that these ftu events are actually for profit…

  6. @Jay that’s baseless and if such insinuations have been it’s mind boggling.

The Frequent Traveler University events are put on by the Frequent Traveler Education Foundation which is — legally, even — a non-profit corporation.

I know of no other corporate structure for any other seminar like that! Furthermore, lots of high profile photos of big live checks being distributed to charities.

Let me be 100% clear. I do not have any “ownership interest” in these seminars. I have not taken anything more than a travel reimbursement of actual expenses (and not even all of those expenses) for putting them together, something that other seminars provide as well.

If anyone is making those charges they should do so clearly and publicly. The insinuation is COMPLETELY AND TOTALLY FALSE.

  7. FTU APRIL WASHINGTON DC

    ONE TICKET NEEDED!!!

If anyone has an extra, please let me know.
I can pay immediately, just send me your paypal info.
Already booked travel and now found out there weren’t enough tickets for me.

    My email is : PERSONETTE@GMAIL.COM

It’s a 5 minute process to change your ticket to a new buyer, and I know who to contact. Thanks for reading. John

  8. I have no desire to be in Tampa during hurricane season. Tampa may have not experienced a hurricane in over a hundred years. But even if it stays in the Gulf of Mexico it can and will cause flooding. If it was Tampa in November – March I’d be there.

  9. How are the double gold passport points going to get credited? I booked my room and no- where does it ask for my passport # and when I tried to import the reservation using my confirmation number it didn’t recognize the confirmation number.
