Mere days ago I wrote a guide for asking airlines to give you elite status. Already there’s a new opportunity I hadn’t seen before.
oneworld member Malaysia Airlines has an interesting status match opportunity.
- You need to have elite status with an airline that flies to Malaysia to be eligible. While no US airline flies to Malaysia, perhaps you have matched your elite status with Turkish Airlines for instance..
- You need to book travel on Malaysia Airlines
- You need to transfer points from a bank credit card program to Malaysia Airlines Enrich. The Citi ThankYou® Premier Card has a 50,000 point initial bonus offer and points transfer to Malaysia.
The status match form is here and you submit documents to enrich.statusmatch@malaysiaairlines.com.
Here are the requirements for each status level:
There are several reasons why this is super interesting.
- Malaysia Airlines business class flights can be quite inexpensive for short haul travel within Asia.
- Gold status is oneworld sapphire and gets you access to American Airlines Flagship lounges even when flying domestically on American Airlines.
- Platinum status gets meet and greet VIP service in Kuala Lumpur
A porter unloads bags from the member’s car, talks them to first class check-in, escorts them through VIP immigration and to the lounge and then waits at the lounge until their flight is ready. Members receive an escort to the gate, to the front of security, and onto the plane — putting bags away in the overhead bin.
I was just in Asia last week. Had I seen this offer earlier I’d have been seriously tempted to take advantage of it. Plus Malaysia Airlines has fantastic satay.

“VIP Airport Escort Service”
Uhhh…phrasing?
I’m with Helios. You really should spell out Very Important Peni……nm
Malaysia airlines may have fantastic Satay but it does not have a stellar Safety record. Hence the cheap fares. And obviously transferring a valuable generic currency like Citipoints does not make sense unless you are planning to use those 50k miles for a Malaysia flight soon. Would not want them stuck in this program.
So flagship lounge access is nice but would that work only if using the Malaysia enrich number on the booking? Thereby missing out on potential upgrades with AA if you were a ExPlat?
IME just show your card
Gary is the best headline writer in the business.
Gary, what uses would you suggest for the miles after the transfer?
Does the VIP escort service include a facial in the lounge?
Gary why would you give your information to an airline from a Jew hating anti-Semitic country who doesn’t recognize Israel’s right to exist?
You constantly slam AA, why would you want to spend more time in the company lounges? I was just in the MIA Flagship Dining, it is truly first rate find me something that rivals what is in place there. Even the Qatar lounges aren’t as nice and private with personalized service.
So stick to hawking credit cards and worrying which flight serves your desired treif meal, you haven’t a clue about AA and are just a new overentitled low value blogger.
