News and notes from around the interweb:
- The Governor of Alaska fired the head of Anchorage airport — and won’t say why
- Meanwhile a bear walked into the post office at the Anchorage airport and wouldn’t leave, so police shot it.
- The new $200 million airport that’s A380 capable but sees only 7 passengers a day. And it’s not in China, although China funded it.
- Pizza in Motion has a more in-depth conversation with Hyatt’s new head of loyalty (actually two conversations) and speculates that Hyatt could bring on Chris Holdren formerly of Starwood to run the day to day (I note that Chris has deleted the last 3 years of tweets from his account) which I’d guess is more likely that Marriott’s Thom Kozik whom he also mentions.
- Why Delta’s support for Bombardier is hypocritical. Sure they argue against subsidies out of one side of their mouth (Gulf carriers, Export-Import Bank) and for them out of another (their own, Bombardier whom they’re buying planes from). But there’s a simple internal consistency: government policy should benefit Delta a.k.a. “subsidies for me but not for thee.” In this way they are just like most large cronyist corporations.
- What’s up with the toilets at Chicago O’Hare?

You’ve never seen those toilets before? And I thought you were a man about town. They have been around forever!
@Patrick I have seen and used them, but it was still interesting enough to pass along
If you must know though I prefer to use club lounge toilets
I have long loved those toilets at O’Hare. I’m not sure why the author of the original article has such an issue with them. Any woman knows that the paper liners never stay put and if there is an “liquid” on the seat, it is just absorbed into the paper liner. So gross. I wish there were more O’Hare toliets in this world!
Completely agree with AMJ. Wish other airports did this.
I remember these from 13 or so years ago! They’re wonderful… I’m sure they’re expensive however… but, do hope that other airports do this as well..
Do you think lounge toilets are cleaner? Ha Good one
The changing seat cover toilets at O’Hare have been around forever. I wish all public rest rooms had them! I have only seen them in one other public rest room.
But nothing beats the heated musical toilets complete with various sprays (including deodorizing) in the Narita AC…
Yup. We Chicagoans love our ORD toilets!!
They have those toilets at MSY too
