American is rolling out deeper cleaning of aircraft between all flights, eventually extending to all of their domestic operation, and – supplies permitting – will begin offering masks and hand sanitizer to passengers. Starting May 1 flight attendants will be required to wear masks as well.

Restaurants may have to halve their capacity for some time to move people farther apart. These changes in consumer preferences, which will persist once lockdowns lift, will change what products people want to buy and change how companies need to market to them.

When a customer is faced with a seat that hasn’t been properly cleaned, and can’t be prior to takeoff, I view the seat as inoperative or out of service — if the airline can’t move them, it’s tantamount to an involuntary denied boarding. Cash compensation should be due.
