In what’s becoming an end of year tradition, United is offering Double Elite Qualifying Miles for sale. Register by December 15th, pay $200, and your flight miles from October 25 through December 15th will count double towards 2006 status. No reason to register right away, wait until early December to see whether doubling your flight miles during the qualifying period will bump you up to higher status.
It turns out that United’s mystery double miles promotion that Northwest was ostensibly countering with its own double miles promo was a targeted email offering to Mileage Plus members in the Upper Midwest. United was certainly targeting Northwest’s stronghold, just days after Northwest mechanics went on strike. Northwest countered with across-the-board double miles. While United was taking advantage of an opportunity to poach Northwest passengers, I suspect Northwest is trying to lure passengers who might otherwise book away due to negative publicity surrounding the strike in a month where traffic is likely to be slower than the peak summer season.
Northwest is offering double miles (which also count towards status) on Northwest and KLM through October 9th. Registration is required. They say the offer is intended to match a similar one from United, which leads me to ask what double miles offer from United? I haven’t seen one. I can’t find one on the United website. And as far as I can tell it hasn’t been mentioned on Flyertalk.com, which is as close as one can come to saying it doesn’t exist. Maybe their corporate espionage folks knew about one coming down the pike? Here’s hoping…
In September and October 2005 Delta is offering double miles on flights booked at Delta.com and paid for with an American Express. Registration required.

Register to earn double miles on all purchases with the Delta American Express from March 15 to April 15 (up to 10,000 bonus miles).
USAirways is offering double miles for purchases made through the end of the month on all flights through the end of 2005. Business class flights to Europe earn 40,000 bonus miles (like American and British Airways) and all flights to the Carribean and Latin America earn 10,000 bonus miles. Registration is required, and again the bonus applies only to tickets purchased by January 31.
United is offering double miles on the first three roundtrips that post to your Mileage Plus account by February 28, 2005 which are booked in M class or higher. M fares are nearly full fare coach. Registration is required.
