Female cabin crew at Hainan Airlines – and only women – face immediate suspension if they are 10% above the airline’s ‘standard’ weight limit for their height, as part of the carrier’s image program. It seems to be hurting their image more than helping it? Or maybe it’s guerilla marketing to sell tickets.

$10 Billion Embezzled From Bankrupt Airline Group
China’s HNA Group began with Hainan Airlines and then acquired brands like Radisson Hotels; airline caterer Gate Gourmet; 25% of Hilton; nearly 10% of Deutsche Bank; and 29% of NH Hotels. They acquired stakes in Red Lion Hotels; Virgin Australia; TAP Air Portugal: South Africa’s Comair; Azul Brazil and much more. The company’s corporate structure sometimes makes it difficult to discern what they own, what they’ve sold off, and what they’ve merely sold to themselves.
Before the pandemic they worked to reduce a debt load that exceeded $100 billion by selling off assets, but continued to face problems paying for fuel, problems paying employees, and problems paying investors. HNA even offered investors airline airline tickets in lieu of interest payments.
8 Airlines Offer All You Can Fly Passes For Just $500
Shanghai-based Delta partner China Eastern is back to 94% of prior year domestic capacity. They’re running a “Fly as you wish” deal which for $475 offers unlimited weekend flights. They report selling over 100,000 passes.
At least 8 Chinese airlines are offering ‘all you can fly’ deals. Just today China Southern, part-owned by American Airlines and Qatar Airways, introduced all you can fly.
Video: Passenger Demands Gate Agent Kneel Down and Apologize for Weather Delay
Video was posted on Chinese social media network Weibo where the delayed passenger isn’t getting much sympathy. One commenter suggests he be banned “from taking planes for the rest of his life, then get him to kneel if he wants the ban to be lifted.”
Customers certainly ‘have a choice of which airline to fly’ on this domestic hop with 16 peak daily departures offered by six different carriers. None however are likely to make staff kneel in apology when delayed by weather.

There are amazing fares between Los Angeles and Shanghai in business class the last third of the year on Hainan Airlines, which reportedly offers the best inflight product of any mainland Chinese carrier.
These fares are available from New York as well to Shanghai and with slightly higher pricing to Beijing, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Fuzhou
10 Airlines Keep Their Planes Squeaky Clean
Airlines were ranked for their cleanliness based on traveler feedback across five areas: seating, toilets, tables, carpets, and cabin panels.
I always marvel at ANA for its cleanliness, down to flight attendants cleaning lavatories continuously throughout long haul flights.
Troubled Major Airline Offers Free Travel Instead of Interest Payments to Investors
I’ve previously suggested that frequent flyer executives have their compensation paid out in airline miles. Then their incentives would be aligned with their customers to support the value of the currency.
Do you think airline employees would accept their pay in travel vouchers? If not then why should investors?
