Hyatt is keeping an award chart, and they’re not changing the points prices of that chart. That’s the good news, I suppose. But their annual category changes are out – going into effect in one month on March 25 – and they’re heavily biased towards price increases.
Is the most valuable award offered to Hyatt’s most loyal guests actually completely useless? Hyatt introduced the Ultimate Free Night Award and the Miraval Extra Award a year ago, and if you want to use them at Miraval Arizona before your certificates expire — you can’t.
Hyatt will acquire all outstanding shares of Playa Hotels at $13.50 per share, valuing it at $2.6 billion inclusive of $900 million debt. That’s a 40% premium over the company’s market cap prior to revealing talks over the sale. Hyatt plans to sell the physical hotel properties, and they anticipate this will generate approximately $2 billion by the end of 2027. The non-Hyatt branded properties seem likely to convert to Hyatt brands over time.
The nearly 800-room Crowne Plaza Times Square closed several weeks ago, and is expected to re-open over the summer as Hyatt Regency Times Square. They are currently accepting reservations starting September 1.
A couple of years ago Hyatt added the Lindner Hotels portfolio to its offerings, bringing more than 30 hotels and 15 new markets in Germany and Central and Eastern Europe. Most were added to the JdV brand, and they don’t get nearly as much attention as flagship hotels like Park Hyatt Vienna or Paris. But a reader brought his recent stay at three of these hotels to my attention, and they fit a really great use case for family travel. I’m pleased to share his trip report on these 3 Lindner hotels.
When a Hyatt property charges a destination fee that is not even disclosed during the booking process that’s especially egregious, and clearly illegal. If you don’t check your bill prior to check-out, you wouldn’t even know you were being charged more than the price you were quoted for the room.
“Underrated” can mean (1) a luxury property at a surprisingly low points category, or (2) a solid, under-the-radar hotel in a city/resort area that people rarely talk about but consistently exceeds expectations.
Hyatt has launched its winter promotion. Registration is required to earn double points on qualifying stays, and triple points at Hyatt Place and Hyatt House brands, January 27 – March 28, 2025.
Venetian and Palazzo Las Vegas are no longer affiliated with IHG after a 15 year partnership. As of today, they are now partners with Hyatt.
Hyatt, which has been on an acquisitions tear, is in talks to acquire Playa Hotels, which owns 24 all-inclusive resorts in Mexico, Jamaica and the Dominican Republic. Hyatt already has a 9.99% stake in the company which operates under the Hyatt Zilara, Hyatt Ziva, Hilton All-Inclusive, Tapestry Collection by Hilton, Wyndham Alltra, Jewel Resorts and The Luxury Collection brands.
