Today only you can earn 15 United MileagePlus miles shopping online at several merchants.
Here are the participating stores:
There are two reasons to take advantage of this:
- Because you need to buy something, so buy it today and as long as the store you’re buying from offers a good price on the goods you’re interested in.
- For re-selling because if you figure 15 miles per dollar is like a nearly 25% discount, you can cover a lot of sales fees and even a potential minor loss while still coming out even or ahead.
Online shopping portal miles are stackable with Amex Offers rebates. Miles to Memories points out that American Express had a $50 back on $200 Nieman Marcus offer. (You have to add these to your account and then rebates are automatic with purchases.) Doctor of Credit writes about this as well.
I didn’t have the Nieman Marcus offer, but do notice two currently in my accounts that would stack with the shopping offer:
These places are usually way overpriced, so reselling is incredibly difficult. I don’t even waste my time trying to find profitable clothing/shoes/handbags, etc.
I actually clicked through to Neiman’s and they are having a sale up to 70% off on men’s blazers.
They were reduced to only $3,400.
I think I could set up an entire manufacturing plant in Shenzhen and produce 1000 knockoffs for that price. Of course, I wouldn’t have the miles to go there in style without my blazer.
@Ken — another wrinkle is these places (I’m most familiar with eBags and Shoebuy) routinely offer 20-25% off coupons which will not stack with shopping portal earnings.
