Asking someone to marry you inflight is seriously overdone. El Al even lets you redeem miles for an inflight marriage proposal kit. Getting married on a plane is a little better.
There’s no real reason you have to tie the knot up in the air though. Because if you can clear security, you might as well get married inside your airline’s lounge like Julie Kay & Vince Bonnetti did this morning in Nashville!

If it were me though, and I’m just thinking out loud, I think I’d want to swing for the fences and do it in a Flagship Lounge and not just the Admirals Club.
There’s plenty of champagne on ice to begin with.
Your guests can can mix their own cocktails.
Of course there’s a buffet.
Perhaps you could even work with Corporate Communications and get the rehearsal dinner put on inside the Flagship First Dining facility?
It’s probably a whole lot easier to do a wedding inside a less exclusive lounge though. The Flagship lounge will require everyone to either be traveling in business class or to have sufficient airline status.
On the other hand you can get an American Airlines credit card that bundles lounge access, get 10 no annual fee authorized user cards, and then have each of the 11 cards bring in two guests apiece. Now you have 33 people — including bride, groom, and officiant — inside the club.
Want something even easier? Get married inside a Priority Pass lounge. Chase Sapphire Reserve cardmembers get unlimited guests with their Priority Pass membership, subject to lounge capacity constraints.
Erica Virvo who works at Nomadic Matt may have set some kind of a record for guesting people into a lounge.
I don’t remember the gentleman’s name, but the officiant is one of the nicest AA employees I have ever met. We fly out of nashville quite a bit and their service is top notch. I am not surprised at all that he would be willing to do this. We actually saw him a few days ago at 4:15am on an early flight heading to st kitts for our anniversary celebration. As we were checking in, a lady came up behind us quickly. He told her to go ahead and enter the club and have some coffee and he would come find her to check her in when he was finished with us. That is the kind of service that keeps me coming back to the admirals club.
If you are going to ask someone to marry you on an airplane you better be sure you are going to get a yes, otherwise its going to be a long flight!
I was just in the flagship lounge in DFW on Thursday and there was a congrats for getting married inside also. They were just married, although my gut told me they were employees of AA. The way the staff chatted with them and how they were interacting.
I’m glad it was two people that got married and not just one…
