United And Marriott Offer Summer Bonus Points To Elites, But There’s A Catch

Marriott and United are offering bonus points for elites traveling with the other company in July and August.

  • Marriott Titanium and Ambassador members earn 750 Marriott bonus points per eligible United flights

  • United Gold elites and above earn 500 bonus miles for Marriott stays

  • In addition, members who complete both a United flight and Marriott stay earn an additional 350 Marriott points and 350 United miles

Customers must be enrolled in the Marriott-United partnership (Marriott ‘real’ elites can link here and United Golds and higher here) and register for this offer.

Eligible travel must begin during the promotional period. Award flights and stays (including points and money) do not count.

This isn’t super rich, but if you’re flying United anyway then earning bonus Marriott points is better than not earning bonus Marriott points. 750 Marriott points is worth ~ $4.50. Similarly, if you’re staying at Marriotts anyway then earning an extra 500 United miles (worth ~ $6) is better than not doing so.

However there’s a potential downside: the offer terms say you can participate in “only one (1) dual currency campaign per calendar year.” If they happen to run another ‘dual currency campaign’ offer this year, registering from this one is supposed to exclude you from what could potentially be behind door number two.

Marriott and United ran a similar offer in the fall. This is the first one we’ve seen in 2024. Will they do it again? Who knows. If they do, will that one be better or worse? Unclear, though odds on it might be similar. Will you have more qualifying activity during a later period than over the summer? That’s the catch!

I’d probably go ahead and register for this if you’re eligible, because bonus points being offered now are better than bonus points that may not be offered later.

The best part of the United-Marriott partnership is that Marriott Titanimum elites and higher receive MileagePlus Silver. The most interesting, to me, part is that Marriott Platinums aren’t elite enough for United to want.

  1. I don’t see this promotion on my Marriott account and my Marriott and United accounts are linked.

  2. Great article! I’m always looking for ways to improve my travel experiences, especially when it comes to business trips. By the way, if anyone needs to book business class tickets at really good prices, I can recommend an excellent service UpTheSkies.com. Each client gets a personal manager who helps with selecting flights and finds the best deals. This makes the booking process much easier and saves both time and money. Highly recommend giving it a try!

I hope this comment works well for the blog!
