- United systemwide upgrades (‘global premier upgrades’) can now be used on ANA although only for the highest coach fares for business class upgrades (though discount business fares can be upgraded to first).
- According to the TSA, after spending over half a billion dollars on their checked baggage screening systems those are no better than they were before. And despite $1.2 billion in maintenance contracts for screening equipment, the TSA doesn’t even know if the maintenance is being done.
- Meanwhile, the TSA has been ‘smurfing’ bonuses. In other to conceal the amounts being paid by officials responsible for screening failures, they’ve broken up bonus payments into small pieces. The TSA’s assistant administrator for the office of security administration was given $90,000 over 13 months even though there’s a $10,000 limit.
- DOT awarded Hawaiian Airlines with authority to fly Kona – Tokyo Haneda. That award was never really in doubt.
