News and notes from around the interweb:
- United Wifi is much worse than American’s or Delta’s. It’s frequently unusable. Now there are t-shirts.
- The government shutdown ended after air traffic controllers – not just TSA employees – started calling in sick. It turns out air traffic controllers started hearing they’d get paid for their sick out days when the shutdown ended, and they wouldn’t count against accrued leave.

- Over the summer thousands of flights were cancelled when an American wholly owned regional carrier had computer issues. This week regional carrier Republic Airlines, which operates for American, Delta, and United found itself cancelling flights amidst a computer meltdown.
- A pipe burst and New York LaGuardia flooded. Not exactly a first for a New York airport.
- San Antonio police are warning hotel guests not to order food from restaurants putting flyers under their doors
I found it interesting that a rep of the ATC appeared on CNN on Wed(?) discussing the stress and strain of it all, logistics, safety records, etc and problems happened by Friday and suddenly the shutdown was over….when you close NYC, Philly, Newark down to air travel, the business world has to lose their minds with SOMEONE….I think the powers that be (as in the Corporations that actually run the country) who have full control over congress, proceeded to say enough is enough…now they know where the breaking point is.
The ATC doesn’t realize the power they had way back when is the power they still have now. Use it wisely.
