A passenger on a JetBlue flight demanded to be allowed to cut in front of other passengers getting off, identifying herself as a lawyer. Was she going to get a judge to order everyone to wait for her?
- Claiming to be a lawyer when you want sympathy is probably the least effective strategy possible, because passengers pushed back quickly, “Wait for the people in front of you to get off!”
- Her response? “Shut your mouth.” And things escalated from there. Another passenger chimed in, “Let the people go.” And she told them they were all “whining for no reason” and they should “just deal with it.”
- That’s when a man starts chanting “Karen.” She tells him he’s “the real Karen” but I don’t know if that’s even possible? She insults a Southerner’s IQ. And a colloquey on colloquialisms follow, bizarrely enough, with a doctoral student proudly proclaiming their use of ‘improper’ English.
- As if the whole thing wasn’t strange enough, the discourse became pedantic even as it stooped to accusations of racism. She was called a racist, but demands nuance, arguing they actually mean to call her “xenophobic.”
She challenged opponents to a Barbri death match, I think? Threatening to meet them outside… to flash her “bar card.” Not implausibly, a passenger responds “You’ll lose your bar card once this goes viral.”
@itsme_brianli “low iq human being”
I have to wonder whether she’s actually a lawyer? Clearly not a very good one, at least in terms of managing complex negotiations or knowing when to speak and when to hold her tongue. I don’t think she should be disbarred, but her judgment is clearly questionable and the internet should find out her name because I certainly wouldn’t want to accidentally hire her.
Ultimately, the way she dealt with other passengers was terrible. But I’m going to defend her popping up into the aisle – a little bit. You might think she’s causing others to stay on the aircraft longer by jumping ahead of them, and that unfair, but she’s getting off the plane quickly! If everyone got off quickly, everyone would be on the plane for less time!
Fast deplaning also keeps flights running on time, allowing airlines to turn aircraft more quickly. And quick turns, along with on-time operations, keep costs down and fares low. She just needs to learn how to sell it – like any marginally competent lawyer would.
(HT: Live and Let’s Fly)
When people crowd you from behind during deplaning, a passive-aggressive approach is more fun. Not that I recommend anyone doing this, but, as you pull your bag down from the overhead make sure you say “excuse me” because that makes it okay by the rules of cabin etiquette if the bag happens to bump the crowding person on its vertical journey from the overhead bin.
Just sayin’…
You know she’s not a lawyer because she asks a man if he has her permission to film her. A lawyer should know he doesn’t need it.
I had a similar issue at CDG, but the French are not as nice as are we.
Waiting in line for exit passport control. 15 minute line. Lady rushes in, says she will miss the plane if she has to wait and goes to front of line not asking any of the passengers if this was OK. Passenger said her alarm did not work and she got up too late. Passport lady told her to get in back of line and bring two alarms next time. We were surprised by response. We would have let her in line had she asked, but never had a chance.
White trash behavior… She doesn’t even look intoxicated…
This woman is a lot of things. But lawyer “ain’t ” one of them!
Literally all she had to say was “Sorry, I have a tight connection” and the entire plane either wouldn’t care or would be rooting for her to make her connection. Any lawyer worth their salt could have come up with that one, true or not.
I can’t remember the commenter, because I think it was a one-off, but a while back (earlier this year), someone had the audacity to espouse ‘die at your desk’ work-a-holic ‘big law’ lawyers as some sort of ‘model achievement’ in our society. *vomit*
I just want to say, that guy was so wrong. Living a balanced, purpose-filled life rarely involves being or dealing with lawyers. Treat others as you and they wish to be treated, please.
@bluecat — Aww, you (won’t) be missed! See you in 2026!
Airlines that take a proactive to late arrivals causing a possible disconnect with passengers connecting to their flights will say so. Most passengers who are at their destination will patiently wait for the rushing connection passengers. I say “most” because one never knows. If someone is polite (and that is MY decision) and explains their rush, I’ll take their word for it. However, push me, shove me, yell at me…I’ll hold my position. Lay a hand on me…different story. I WILL take the necessary actions, without violence, to secure my interests. You might just miss that connection and then some.

You know what you call the student who makes the lowest passing grade on the State Bar Exam?
Attorney & Counselor at Law. My guess is just got the Results, flying home to tell Mama it was worth all $300,000++ in student loans. And has accepted the $55,000 a year gig handling traffic tickets!
@Alan — Bah! Speaking of, so much for ‘promises made, promises kept.’ #45/47 hasn’t pulled that off… yet. I guess folks forgot about it. Oh well.
If everyone rushed the aisle to expedite deplaning, wouldn’t that create instant gridlock with further simultaneous scattered skirmishes/assaults that are inherent in commercial aviation these days ?
I prefer the old school/passive-aggressive tactic of “inadvertently” tripping her in the aisle….but the “falling” overhead bag trick could have potential & be equally effective !
It could be worse, did anyone else see that report of Milan (MXP) getting shut down on Tuesday after a trespasser got sucked into an engine on a taxiway? Yikes! Bad way to go…
“ She tells him he’s “the real Karen” but I don’t know if that’s even possible? “
Why? Because genders can’t be changed Gary?
The ‘Karen’ should have shouted something like “I’m about to have a giant attack of explosive diarrhea”. “Please let me off so I don’t sh*t my pants” ! I’d let her pass in front of me for that reason.
good
“You know she’s not a lawyer because she asks a man if he has her permission to film her. A lawyer should know he doesn’t need it.” I disagree. A very common lawyer behavior toward non-lawyers is to exploit non-lawyers lack of law knowledge. So, suggesting filming might require consent when you know it doesn’t require it is essential lawyer behavior. A lawyer will threaten to sue you on grounds that will have the case thrown out immediately. They just hope the threat scares you.
When anyone inserts “I am a [fill in profession],” I recommend responding with something like, “OK, I’ll speak slow.”
“You know what you call the student who makes the lowest passing grade on the State Bar Exam?” Remember the old Carlin joke. Somewhere in the world is the least competent practicing physician. Somebody has an appointment with them tomorrow.
@This comes to mind — “A very common lawyer behavior toward non-lawyers is to exploit non-lawyers lack of law knowledge.”
Yes, also, a very common lawyer behavior is outright lying, half-truths, misdirection, distraction tactics, and all sorts of sociopathic behavior. It’s not what they teach in law school, but for some reason, many in the field adopt this horrible way of mistreating and abusing others, seemingly to feel the rush of ‘power’ and to ‘win’ at all costs. We really should call that out more. It’s disgusting and harmful when anyone acts that way or abuses power.
I miss George’s comedy so much; wish he were still around for today, though I bet he’d be glad to not have to deal with all this bull.
You made genuinely great comments. Keep it going!
Re: This comes to mind says. No more calls, Folks. We’ve got a winner!
You are not supposed to impede a lawyer on their way to court, but this does not seem to be that situation. Would the reaction be the same if it were “I am a doctor.”
@ 1990. The “die at your desk” guys are hoping against the odds to make partner. The partners are out on the golf course making rain. Big Law has been the handmaiden to many disasters and escaped their share of the blame. And the lawyers who most loudly espouse their liberal views and pro bono work are ones representing pipelines, insurance companies, banks, and throwing people out of their houses.
Very strange to “defend her popping up into the aisle “, Yes if everybody was quicker the plane would be quicker, but her jumping ahead and other behaviour surely had no effect on that. I would say, if anything, her actions slowed the whole exit down. Very strange logic on your end. Nobody is going to decide to exit quicker because of this type of passenger, so no defending of her seem to be merited. They might slow down to see what’s happing of to video the scene,.
It reminds me of a lane closing ahead and you have the drivers that will speed ahead to try to merge at the last possible moment. They save time for themselves, but hold up others trying to force themselves in causing delays. I certainly don’t defend them. I like nothing better than when I see a big truck split the lanes and stop them from rushing ahead.
@Jack the Ladd — Yeesh, and I thought I was cynical… bah!
@ 1990
Cynical, yes. Based on experience. But I won’t represent banks, insurance companies, and other nogoodniks. I’d rather pound sand & eat rats, although that has not been necessary.
