News and notes from around the interweb:
- Delta has a new performance guarantee for corporate contract customers that’s written in a way that they’re unlikely to have to ever pay out. So it should come as no surprise that United is introducing one as well (HT: S.)
United’s will award credits for delays and cancellations that can only be used for ancillary fees and upgrades, rather than providing real cash rebates.
United’s senior vice president of worldwide sales, Dave Hilfman, estimates that the likelihood the carrier will have to pay anything is “slim to none.”
- Insideflyer.co.uk is giving away enough Virgin miles for a free Upper Class ticket
- British Airways has released a bunch of extra business class award seats over Christmas and New Years
We have just released 13,000 extra Reward seats in Club World on selected routes for travel between the 14th of December 2015 and the 3rd of January 2016.
Additional reward flights availability in Club World for limited destinations departing from London Heathrow only on British Airways flight-only bookings. …Additional availability varies depending on destination and date of departure. This offer is only available to those Members’ logged in to their Executive Club account, who have sufficient Avios.
- Video tour of a Boeing 727 that an Oregon man made his home. (HT: Jonathan W.)
- Delta’s new restrictions on elites booking extra legroom seats have an ancillary casualty: elites using American Express-issued companion certificates can no longer be assigned these seats at all (for May 16 travel onward) because it’s considered an “upgrade” and the certificates preclude upgrades. This is also apparently a system limitation — “Comfort+” tickets receive a fare designator, companion certificates involve a fare designator, and tickets can only have one fare designator. - New mileage bonuses from the American and United shopping portals
