News and notes from around the interweb:
- I went on NPR’s “To the Point” on Friday along with the Wall Street Journal‘s Susan Carey and others for a half hour roundtable on Delta’s mess, with my contributions focusing on what passengers can do during major disruptions.
- The circle of student life: For awhile you’ve been able to use Aeroplan points to pay off student loans. You can now earn United miles when you take on student loans — from 5000 to 20,000 miles depending on size of the loan.
Credible appears to be a marketing company which earns affiliate commission from lenders and rebates part of the commission to you in the form of miles. So if the 5 lenders they work with offer you the best available deal, you might as well get miles too. I’m told that “Credible just does one soft credit check.”
- Seriously, wear your seat belt whenever you’re in your seat. 24 people were sent to the hospital after severe turbulence on a JetBlue flight Thursday night.
“Suddenly the plane dropped and anything not fastened down flew into the air, including laptops,” De Vries said. “Soda was sprayed on the ceiling. Then two flight attendants asked if a doctor was on board.”
He said a third flight attendant was injured “pretty badly.”
“The cabin was pretty messy from everything flying around and a ceiling panel was knocked out of place from someone having been thrown into it,” De Vries said.
- The American flight attendant charged with attacking flight crew succeeded with her insanity claim.
- Focusing on growing LAX, American Airlines has a formal mechanism to listen to Hollywood (HT: @DangerousBri)
- American Airlines will apparently make changes to its schedules with its operations team blaming scheduling for unrealistic flights that they couldn’t possibly make run on time.
I can always count on changing schedules to get my change fee waived for tickets booked far in advance. Nice even if I’m not optimistic that just a change in schedule will make things better.
Still plugging every one of your appearances, I see. I guess it never gets old.
As you know @Mark I mention some though certainly far from all of my other media here on my blog (which kind of makes sense I think).
Your frequent sarcasm in the comments sometimes gets old for me, but then I tell myself if you have so little else in your life that it brings you that bit of joy that keeps you going then I’ve done a good deed and certainly welcome you!
Thanks for the writeup, Gary. Credible.com is actually a marketplace for student loans and student loan refinancing — and yes, you can get quotes from multiple lenders without affecting your credit score.
