100% Bonus on Buying Miles from AviancaTaca

AviancaTaca has brought back their 100% bonus on purchased miles, through December 28.

You can purchase up to 75,000 miles and receive a 100% bonus (resulting in up to 150,000 miles).

AviancaTaca miles are especially leveraged

Since joining Star Alliance in June they’ve already run buy miles bonuses twice previosuly — they ran the offer in September, and one in July. This was a regular feature of the program prior to their joining Star as well.

And each time the offer is limited to people that were members of the program prior to the start of the buy miles bonus. Which is why I suggest at least joining AviancaTaca Lifemiles speculatively, since the program is really valuable.

  • The award chart is pretty reasonable
  • One-way awards are available for half the cost of roundtrip
  • They offer cash and points awards bookings. As long as you have at least 40% of the miles needed for an award in your account, you can buy the difference in miles for US$12.75 per 1000 miles. That’s less than 1.3 cents per mile.
  • No fuel surcharges on awards
  • Online booking of Star Alliance partners

    @Lantean — Yes, the ability to access Swiss F was the single best “feature” of this program. 🙁

  6. Does this mean I could purchase 40% of the miles I need, then use a cash and points booking with the purchased miles?

  7. This is a good promo, BUT your post should also point out that there are some serious downsides such as no stopovers allowed, difficulty in booking any award with a layover of +8 hours, appalling call centre support should you ever be unfortunate enough to have to call them.

  8. I joined today and was able to see the link for the 2-for-1 promo, but I seriously DOUBT that I would actually receive the bonus. When I try to complete a buy miles transaction, the confirmation page doesn’t show anything about the bonus. My assumption is that the bonus would only post if my account had been created before today, given that that’s one of the stipulations in the terms and conditions of the offer.

  9. @Tom and Gary, could you guys specify their routing rules like stopover policy? And I can’t find their award chart on their website.

  12. Unfortunately it does not show any LH Cityline flights online, although does show regular LH flights. Cityline flights usually have regular LH flight numbers. Is it a limitation of online system, or do they not allow Cityline flights?

  13. the fact they do not allow mixed cabin award even if you pay for the higher cabin award is annoying too

  15. If you purchase these miles, does the credit card transaction say that there was a purchase from the airline (reimbursable from Ritz Carlton rewards card) or from some third party?

  16. AviancaTaca processes these purchases themselves, they show up as airline transactions. So certainly should be eligible for bonus points with credit cards that offer such bonuses. I do know Ritz Carlton Visa is generous in their reimbursements so might work. Double Amex Plat would reimburse

  17. The police mentions that ‘Does not apply to the Flexible Redemption (miles + money) payment option.’ what does this mean? we cannot use the bonus miles for cash+miles option???

  18. I called to check on availability on a iten with two segments with a connection that is less than 2 hours. The agent said I’d have to redeem to award travel since I am piecing together two flights. Any advice on how to get through these agents (i.e., what do you tell them if you want to piece together your own segments)?

  19. Gary (or anyone else) – do you know the answer to Ding’s question? Seems that it would have a critical impact on the value of the miles/promotion.
