Austin’s airport is known for only local food offerings, well except for Schlotzsky’s Deli & Cinnabon and Auntie Anne’s pretzels. I don’t love Austin Java coffee. Salt Lick barbecue isn’t great barbecue and it doesn’t translate well to the airport (the DFW airport location is worse). Options should get better, though. We’re getting a Second Bar & Kitchen (downtown location is very good upscale bar food). Now comes news of tacodeli and Peached Tortilla (very good Asian fusion) outposts, both local stars, and Jo’s Coffee well-known for the “I love you so much” wall at its South Congress location. In Austin you’re either a Tacodeli or a Torchy’s fan. I’m somewhere in between. Torchy’s has better guacamole and queso, but Tacodeli uses much better ingredients for its tacos. Cat's out of the bag. #openingsoon #austinbergstrom…

United Selling Miles Broadly Under 1.9 Cents Each for First Time
Former US Airways President-cum-American Airlines President Scott Kirby is now President at United.
And he knows that the airline is in control of their cost of redemption, and that any miles sold above that cost generates profit.
Now I Know Who Took My Upgrade
Have you ever lost out on an upgrade because that last first class seat was taken by a cat, or a pig?
TSA Says United Is Lying, They Never Banned Comics From Checked Luggage at Comic-Con
This morning I wrote about customers at the San Diego airport being told — at the end of Comic-con — that they wouldn’t be allowed to put comic books in checked luggage.
The TSA reached out to me with the Shaggy Defense. Wasn’t them.

I’ve Criticized Airlines a Lot Lately. These Two Passengers Are Worse.
Earlier in the month two passengers turned up late in Los Angeles for an American Airlines flight to Phoenix. They’re at Gate 52F for an American Eagle flight (operated by Envoy). And they showed up as the doors closed 10 minutes to departure.
And they went ballistic. They believe they have a right to be on the flight because they have boarding passes. They wanted the standby passengers given their seats to be pulled off. Their bags were supposed to be checked onto the flight, they want to be on the flight.
Japanese Massage Chairs are Replacing Airport Workers in Tokyo
Japan Airlines is eliminating massages in its Tokyo airport lounges and will be adding additional massaging chairs instead effective October 1.
The TSA Banned Comic Books in Checked Luggage — For Comic-Con
This spring the TSA started testing searching books as you go through the checkpoint. After all your math textbooks might mean you’re a terrorist.
You might think you’re safe checking copies of 1984 in your luggage. And you probably are. But if you’re flying out of San Diego you’d better not try to check any comics.
Virgin Kicked 11 Year Old Boy Out Of Seat And The Flight Wasn’t Even Overbooked
It seems only US airlines have gotten the memo not to involuntarily deny boarding to a passenger after they’re already in their seat.
Sadly it seems even 11 year olds need to know their rights or airlines will try to take advantage of them.
