New and notes from around the interweb:
- Apple warns against storing its new credit card in leather
- Airlines are investing more in food than they were but still not as much as before the recession that preceded 9/11. And inflight food is hard. The best meals I’ve had have been soups — laksa on Singapore Airlines, ramen on ANA, and duck rice soup on Thai. All reheat well in a cabin. And don’t believe American Airlines when they tout short rib, yes it reheats well but no it isn’t better but it is cheaper..
- Qantas will use Boeing 787-9 delivery flights to simulate ultra long haul service that they hope for between Sydney and Melbourne and London as well as the U.S. East Coast. Aircraft in the running are as-yet unlaunched Airbus A350-1000ULR and Boeing 777-8.
- It is ‘unclear’ whether the Marriott Frenchman’s Reef St. Thomas will reflag when it re-opens late next year. The property’s owner recently complained about Marriott now requiring resorts to offer breakfast to elites, while acknowledging the new program saves costs for hotels overall.
Marriott St. Thomas, Credit: Marriott - New Japan Airlines safety video starting September 1. (HT: JALPak) They focus on what they see as realistic safety scenarios rather than fun and funny.
- This will definitely get you banned from a flight
- Hilarious parody of a Cathay Dragon safety card, a bit of gallows humor over the current pro-democracy protests and government response in Hong Kong. This was sent to me by a reader and I do not know the original source.
I suspect Apple will come up with iWallet soon for ONLY $499.
Or sell AppleCare for the card then refuse to fix it when they knowingly broke it while it was in their possession.
JAL’s new safety video is the way it should have been. Too many airlines now focus on the wrong direction
