20 Hotel Amenities You Shouldn’t Use

News notes from around the interweb:

  • While SuperShuttle is shutting down December 31 individual airport franchisees in many cases will rebrand and stay in business. No more 1-800-BLUE-VAN though.

The transition should be complete by early 2020, and changes include a new website, new dispatch and reservations system and changing out the branding on the vehicles.

“This shutdown on December 31st is for all the corporate owned locations and does not include affiliates or master franchises,” according to a statement from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport. “For passengers, this means they may see some different branding, etc., when they come to the airport in the new year, but we do not anticipate any impacts in service.”

  • Silvercar is surveying whether to carry A3 and A5 sedans in addition to the A4 mainstay of their fleet (along with Q5 SUVs and Q7s). (HT: Larry B.)

  • Competitours is back for 2020, the team travel competition dubbed the ‘Amazing Race For Regular People’ by Chicago Tribune. It’s put on by my award booking partner Steve Belkin.

    • Zig zag through mystery itinerary nooks and crannies of Western/Central Europe (no obvious suspects like big cities or cruise ports).
    • Accomplish daily surprise challenge activities where creativity and resourcefulness, NOT speed or fitness are the skill sets needed to win. Level playing field, anyone can play.
    • 12 teams of two- past teams ages 14-79, 23 states and 2 Canadian provinces
    • At stake, $3600 grand prize split between top 3 teams.

Last year 70% of teams were repeat participants, everyone loves doing it and it’s addictive. In 2020 trips will be July 2-12 and July 21-31.

  • 20 hotel amenities you shouldn’t use I only agree with about 60% of these, don’t use the gym, really?

  • Is the airplane order boom over?

  1. I don’t think that person has ever travelled. She’s afraid of everything. Glasses. Bottles. Towels. Gyms. Snacks. What does she do? What about sheets? Shouldn’t you bring your own mattress? People slept on it before. Better yet, stay home dear.

  2. Again Clickbait! @Gary I would really appreciate it if your post is just a collection of links, that you actually make that clearly visible, not just a bogus headline, which sounds interesting. This is not quality blogging. All-inclusive Resorts are not the same as hotels. Even tho some of the amenities are the same. Half of the list is BS and they forgot to mention CA’s Prop 65. If you stay anywhere in CA in a hotel, you get cancer regardless ^^. Well, sorry, that’s wrong. You get cancer everywhere in CA ^^ no matter where you are. I am surprised that they don’t put up a Prop 65 warning next to the city sign or underneath the Hollywood sign ^^

  3. Please do not link to articles from “thetravel.com”. Ever. Please. It’s less than zero-effort click-bait garbage.

  4. “Try to Bring your own towels”
    “Don’t use plastic bags”
    “Don’t use the gym”
    “hairdryers aren’t cleaned”
    “don’t turn on the TV”
“the drinks at the bar are full of sugar”
“don’t drink the free mini bar drinks”
don’t use the mugs or glasses in the room but also don’t ever use plastic water bottles.
Here I’ll add another one….don’t ever go to thetravel.com for any good travel advice.
