You Can Now Charter The Whole First Class Cabin On British Airways

TravelSort reports that British Airways is promoting a new option to book out their entire first class cabin. That may be attractive to households that want to travel by themselves, or even individuals looking to social distance.

Of course British Airways first class isn’t as spacious as some airlines’ business class, so there’s only limited social distancing to be had. But it’s better than business class on most of BA’s aircraft.

The “Charter our FIRST Cabin” British Airways offer is promoted as being at “a fraction of the cost” with prices so low apparently they won’t advertise them publicly – though may depend on route, expected demand, and how far out you’re making the reservation.

Key terms:

  • Non-refundable full payment is due within 72 hours of blocking the cabin as a charter
  • No refunds or changes once the payment is made
  • Final names and name changes permitted up to 72 hours prior to the flight departure

Now, there are routes like New York JFK – London Heathrow where you’ll find 9 or more business class award seats without difficulty.

The pattern I’m seeing is that travel more than a few days out, but within two weeks, will have wide open first class cabins as well with 8 seats not uncommon. So before you book group travel with cash on these times you might be able to do even better.

And bear in mind that while the U.K. has remained open they are late to the quarantine game, and many places you might connect through London to remain closed.

  1. I pity those households who have enough money to book out BA first class but not enough money to just charter a private jet for the trip. Awkward, awkward medium.

  2. I’m waiting to hear stories about involuntary downgrades because someone booked the whole cabin.

  3. And your First Class meal will be a box containing a cold sandwich and of course, they will ensure that all flights are ‘dry’ so no need to wonder what kind of champagne or wine to have with your boxed sandwich.

Sorry for the snark, I just couldn’t resist.
