News and notes from around the interweb:
- Ousted American Airlines President, now United Airlines CEO Scott Kirby, offers congratulations to his former employee Robert Isom on being named American’s CEO when Doug Parker steps down March 31. I’ve never been a Scott Kirby fan but based on all indications United got the better executive.
Congratulations on a career that changed the airline industry. Amazing to think about where you started as CEO, 10 days before September 11, 2001, through all the challenges of the last 20 years to end as the CEO of the world’s largest airline (for now 😀). While we’ve gone our separate ways, I personally appreciated your mentorship and friendship and all that I learned from you in our 15 years side by side as we went from America West to American.
And congrats to Robert, another longtime friend, on his CEO appointment. I’m happy for him, but it’s game on!
- Airbnb lists properties owned by a sanctioned Chinese state entity involved in persecution of Uyghurs Senator Marco Rubio wants them to pull the listings, but Airbnb says it doesn’t matter who owns the properties they entities they work with on the rentals aren’t on the sanctions list. Surely Airbnb will be embarrassed into pulling the listings, even as they invest heavily in China (and therefore kowtow to its leaders).
14 Airbnb listings on land owned by the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, which operates some facilities in Xinjiang where more than 1 million Uyghurs and other Muslim minorities are believed to have been detained since 2017.
The XPCC is also involved in the production of approximately one-third of the region’s cotton, an industry that widely utilizes Uyghur coerced labor.

Well said Scott!! Magnanimous…but wait and see you guys, the King Kobra is coming after you guys!!!
That Estonia article read like an ad, and not a good one. They didn’t really lay out the case for why one would get e-Residency or create a business there besides that it’s easy to do online… but there’s no reason to create a business in Estonia to do business in Estonia. It’s not a requirement.
Really weird that anyone would post that. Could have just written, “hey, Estonia has great online services, including business registration, and you should totally check it out!” as a Tweet. Would have saved me some life.
