Comments

  1. In other news, TSA bomb-sniffing dogs are being cut their food and shelter allowances. But this is to be expected from dog-shooting DHS Barbie (Noem).

  2. The MAGA “I see ghosts” crazy AA reject passenger is blocked from redeeming AA miles?

  3. I kept trying to place who Noem
reminded me of. The hair is inappropriate. Pretty much the generic look these days.

  4. On the ANA incident at JFK: The pilot wasn’t ‘stubborn’ and didn’t ‘argue’ so much as they were Japanese and simply didn’t understand that ‘on request’ meant to ‘hold’ so I’m not sure the negative connotation is necessary, though mistranslations, especially of idioms, can be quite funny, so thank you (and Ben) for sharing this.

On Return to Office: The ‘badge swipe’ method for tracking is one thing, but since some folks abuse that as well (come in just to swipe, then leave), there have been time frames implemented, too, like it needs to be at least a half-day, but honestly this is silly, for a lot of desk jobs that don’t really involve collaboration in-person all that much (such as for teams spread around the country or the world). I’ve also witnessed the new methods of tracking via ‘IP’ addresses, mouse scrolling, typing, clicks, etc. and honestly it’s all ridiculous. Either let people work, measure productivity via a healthy balance of quantitative and qualitative means, and otherwise support your people instead of micromanaging them. Sheesh!

  5. I don’t get why companies are such assholes about not allowing employees to work from home. I love working from home.

  6. @Jeffrey. I also love working from home. It is awesome for the employees and a logistical nightmare for managers. Especially in the public sector.

  7. (1) AA’s RTO behavior reeks of a college that built a new dorm/dining hall and is now finding out that it wasn’t needed…so they start requiring students to live on campus and buy a fancy meal plan.

    (2) Y’know, if she’s got three months, that’s /more/ than enough time to do a dining visit (with an eye towards redeeming on a partner) or burn the miles on a hotel stay. I’m just surprised they didn’t revoke the miles already.

  8. She should be banned from flying AA. Don’t know why she did it/her issue but she’s dangerous and doesn’t belong on a plane.

On the JFK issue the controller finally said wait, don’t move until I tell you. Yet the pilot didn’t seem to understand that simple command. Very problematic. Pilots flying internationally are suppose to be able to speak and understand English. Period.

  9. @George N Romey — On the ANA pilot incident, as I tried to explain above, it’s not merely language (‘learn to speak English, dagnabit!’), it’s importantly the accurate interpretation and understanding of language. This Japanese pilot does indeed speak English; however, he did not understand the unique usage of the phrase ‘on request’ within that particular context–most lay persons who are fluent in English would not know that jargon either–if you were walking on the street and someone shouted ‘on request’ at you, like, you wouldn’t know what they mean. A more simplified, ‘hold’ or ‘halt’ would have been better for universal understanding. Then again, maybe all pilots worldwide are supposed to know what ‘on request’ means, in which case, that ANA pilot should receive further training. After all, communication is not just ‘speaking’ it is understanding.

On, Ms. Gomas: It seems that is indeed still ‘banned’ for her freakout, as she probably should be. Her ‘TMFINR’ phrase is still very much a ‘meme’. And she is active on social media, probably saw and read this article (and our comments)–if she has free time. It does seem based on her more recent posts that she has maybe has ‘learned her lesson’ and ideally would never act that way again, only she knows that in her heart. ‘FAFO’, as they say. Without greater societal deterrence, other are likely to attempt copy-cat ‘freakouts’ for ‘internet clout’ and to seek their own 15-minutes of fame, as she apparently had attempted in the aftermath (sponsorships, etc.). Ms. Gomas probably regrets not having done a pump-n-dump, rug-pull style shit-coin because those crypto bros seem to fall for that easily–see the Hawk Tuah girl for reference (‘hot’ chick, gimme money, steals it, etc.). We do live in an age of grifters, after all. If only we as a populace were better trained to ignore them.

  10. Gomas should t be banned.
    1) she is too attractive
    2) it was a mental episode so it’s discrimination based on ada guidance.

  11. Those miles might get a rental car for a day or two… or a hotel not in peak season nor by big tourist attractions. Hope she uses them for something. She did earn them, regardless of her episode that got her banned
