Luxury Travel Diary, a high-end travel blog with great reviews based in the UK, has a bunch of travel auctions — some about to close, others extend into October — and there look to be some real bargains.
They wanted to highlight some of these, and offered to help organize a giveaway of a 3 night hotel stay in a suite at a top property in New York for readers of this blog. Details on how to comment on this post to win below.
I suppose that folks who already know about these auctions won’t like the added attention, because frankly there aren’t enough bidders relative to the value of the offerings and some of these items go too cheap.
Here’s an auction ending in 3 days for a private jet flight between New York and California – a transcon – going for 1000 British pounds as of this writing. There’s no minimum/reserve price, which is ridiculous.
Or 3 nights in St. Barts for 103 pounds as I write this:
There’s page after page of auctions to scroll through, generally nice places that appear to be selling for less than they should.
Prize: a three-night stay in a terrace suite at The William New York – subject to availability with no blackouts.
The property is currently rated 11 out of 189 ‘specialty lodging’ options on TripAdvisor, with 4.5 stars.
The William is a modern extended stay hotel located near Bryant Park in Manhattan. Stay for a month or more and be immersed in a lifestyle localized in culture, yet tailored in service. Thoughtfully crafted for our discerning clientele, The William features thirty-three guest suites that leave no detail unexplored.
These reviews look pretty typical:
To enter: leave a comment on this post with your favorite item up for auction at Luxury Travel Diary, or why you would choose to stay at The William over other hotels in New York. You may enter two times if you wish and answer those two questions one time each in separate comments.
Contest deadline and drawing winner: Entries close Friday, October 2 at Noon eastern. I will draw winner with the assistance of random.org.
The fine print: For avoidance of doubt I have no affiliation with either Luxury Travel Diary or The William hotel. I will put the winner in touch with the hotel for booking. They are solely responsible for providing prize to winner. All decisions made in the course of running this giveaway are final and unappealable and your entry signifies your acceptance. The goal here is to make readers aware of a pretty cool auction opportunity, and to give away a suite stay in New York. So please don’t make it hard on me for doing so!
I’d stay there because it’s free and NYC hotel prices scare me!
I would choose The William because it would feel like I’m actually living in NYC in my very own apartment. Looks awesome and I love the Bryant Park area!
The dinner for 2 at the Churchill looks good.
My favorite Luxury Travel Auction is the Le Sereno in St. Barts!
Definitely the St. Barts stay!
Wow the five nights in the Cook Islands sounds awesome
My favorite auction is the 2 Nights At The Grand Hotel Punta Del Este, Uruguay. Who doesn’t want to go to Uruguay for under five dollars!
Favorite item: 4 Nights At Makunudu Island, Maldives
My favorite item up for auction is the 2 Night Weekend Stay At Park Hyatt Buenos Aires! I’ve stayed there once, and I certainly would return again. Asado!
I would stay at The William based on the hotel location.
I would choose the William because of the deluxe rain shower. There’s something about starting and ending a busy day in NYC with that to keep that fresh, luxury feeling.
The 4 Nights At Makunudu Island, Maldives!
The private jet flight for a once in a lifetime experience
Having only been to NYC once and staying in a nasty hostel, I think The Williams is how I need to redeem myself in the city. I’d love to stay there!
The location of the William is incredible and looks very modern and sleek
The London chocolate show. Because chocolate.
My favorite auction at Luxury Travel Diary is the 7-night stay at a private villa in Alayna, Turkey. Why? Because I bid on it and WON! Can’t wait to spend a week on Turkey’s “Riviera”
I would love to stay at the William because as much as I love Starwood points, I love free stuff even more.
The William stands out from a lot of other hotel brands that provide generic, comfortable lodging. The William is about lifestyle.
I am going to NYC soon so it would be cool
I like the William because it is a small botique hotel that I am sure provides superb personal service
and is a short walk to many local attractions.
Look’s good enough for me.
I would stay at the William due to its great location, great reviews, and to experience new hotel styles.
Favorite auction item: 5 nights at the Mayan Islands Resort in Belize.
I’d like to get to Belize! Second favorite auction item: entrance to London Chocolate Fest,
only 5# currently.
My favorite auction item is three nights in St. Barts. Why? My doctor says I need more vitamin D from the sun!
Lots of great stuff, but I think I’d pick the 2-night weekend stay at the Park Hyatt Buenos Aires
Definitely the best item up for auction is the private jet flight from NY/Cali. It’s an opportunity to experience private travel, at a fraction of the cost! (Unless the bidding soars, pun intended!).
I’d love to visit NYC!!!! Count me in!
I would stay at the William because it is in a great location
not sure if previous comment went thru….NYC! Ya gotta love it!
I would stay at The William because of its proximity to Times Square without actually being in Times Square — sort of the best of both worlds.
The California to New York flight on private jet would be a sublime experience . Staying at the Terrace in New York would be incredible . Thank You
The William looks like the perfect place to stay while visiting my children, who, of course, live in an apartment so small they couldn’t host a hamster.
I’m dreaming of a trip to Argentina and Chile, so I’d take the Park Hyatt Buenos Aires for two nights.
The William looks unique, and is in a great location. Would love to stay there!
2 night weekend stay at the park hyatt bueno aires!
I’d choose the William because a five-star review on Google isn’t something you see very often! Proximity to Korea Town also isn’t a bad thing.
I would stay at the William because it looks to be in a great spot with a lot to explore in the area
My favorite auction item is the stay at the Mayan Islands Resort in Belize. Always been wanting to check out Belize and that resort looks gorgeous.
The 2 night stay at the grand harbor inn Camden, Maine is my favorite option. It is easy to catch a quick flight from DC to Boston then drive the remaining the miles to Camden. I’ve stayed in Camden before and it is hard to beat a small coastal town in Maine.
The wiliam looks trendy. Awesome
I would like to stay at the William in New York to take my son to the big apple and experience all there is to see. Given our family, it would be nice to have the extra space the William offers.
Hi Gary,
I’d like to stay at the Williams hotel in NYC with my twin boys, age 7. This is a perfect lay out and location for a mother traveling with two small children. We have been to New York, but missed going to a Broadway show, and my son Jackson has been asking about it ever since.
Thanks,
Liz Schall
The William looks fab! It’s totally my kind of hotel: modern, roomy, well-located, with the added bonus of having outdoor space in NYC! I love that it has a separate sitting area and small kitchen.
I would stay at the William because of the good reviews & the location looks to be perfect
Saint Barts with the girlfriend takes the cake to beat out the always fun NYC winters. Envisioning a weekend away with the girl at the William would come in handy this winter as well. Staycation!
I would stay at the William because it seems bright and modern.
My favorite auction item is the 5 nights at the John F in Berlin – who wouldn’t want to go to Europe for a few hundred bucks?
Would love to stay at the William for a “staycation” with my boyfriend, who I don’t see very often – would be a great treat and romantic!
I would stay at The Williams because it is spacious and enough for me, my husband and my daughter to enjoy our first trip to New York as a family.
