Luxury Travel Diary, a high-end travel blog with great reviews based in the UK, has a bunch of travel auctions — some about to close, others extend into October — and there look to be some real bargains.
They wanted to highlight some of these, and offered to help organize a giveaway of a 3 night hotel stay in a suite at a top property in New York for readers of this blog. Details on how to comment on this post to win below.
I suppose that folks who already know about these auctions won’t like the added attention, because frankly there aren’t enough bidders relative to the value of the offerings and some of these items go too cheap.
Here’s an auction ending in 3 days for a private jet flight between New York and California – a transcon – going for 1000 British pounds as of this writing. There’s no minimum/reserve price, which is ridiculous.
Or 3 nights in St. Barts for 103 pounds as I write this:
There’s page after page of auctions to scroll through, generally nice places that appear to be selling for less than they should.
Prize: a three-night stay in a terrace suite at The William New York – subject to availability with no blackouts.
The property is currently rated 11 out of 189 ‘specialty lodging’ options on TripAdvisor, with 4.5 stars.
The William is a modern extended stay hotel located near Bryant Park in Manhattan. Stay for a month or more and be immersed in a lifestyle localized in culture, yet tailored in service. Thoughtfully crafted for our discerning clientele, The William features thirty-three guest suites that leave no detail unexplored.
These reviews look pretty typical:
To enter: leave a comment on this post with your favorite item up for auction at Luxury Travel Diary, or why you would choose to stay at The William over other hotels in New York. You may enter two times if you wish and answer those two questions one time each in separate comments.
Contest deadline and drawing winner: Entries close Friday, October 2 at Noon eastern. I will draw winner with the assistance of random.org.
The fine print: For avoidance of doubt I have no affiliation with either Luxury Travel Diary or The William hotel. I will put the winner in touch with the hotel for booking. They are solely responsible for providing prize to winner. All decisions made in the course of running this giveaway are final and unappealable and your entry signifies your acceptance. The goal here is to make readers aware of a pretty cool auction opportunity, and to give away a suite stay in New York. So please don’t make it hard on me for doing so!
Staying at the William would be great as I like extended stay properties.
I’ve never overnighted in NYC but I’ve traveled many times internationally out of JFK, so I would love to stay at The William and experience the beauty of hotel during my first trip to NYC.
Great city, great location!
3 NIGHTS AT WAIPUNA ESTATE, CHRISTCHURCH, NEW ZEALAND
These items list outrageous amounts as the value of the item expressed by the donor. So can a bid winner expect a 1099 reporting these values so that the donors can deduct these outrageous amounts?
4 Night Yacht Charter With Kalimba Caribbean Tours
2 nights at Trevose Harbour House, St Ives, Cornwall
Would love to visit NY with my parents and treat them with a stay at The William!
I’d go with the William, because it’s nicer than most hotels that I stay at.
Because it’s free.
My favorite is: 5 Nights At Niramaya Resort & Spa, Queensland, Australia. Why? Kangaroos!
NY is on my bucket list!
Amazing location in an amazing city! These type of hotels are hard to find!
I’ll take 3 Nights At Nona Lani Cottages, Kihei, Hawaii any day!

Yacht hire for 4 nights
The William looks great — 3 nights in NYC is a no-brainer.
I stayed a few nights at Le Sereno about 4 years ago — it’s a lovely discrete property designed by Christian Liaigre. The bid of 103 pounds would barely check you in to the island’s cheapest hotel for one night in low season on this pricey island — worth checking in to.
I’d like to stay at the William so I can razz my brother, William!
My favorite item currently on luxury travel diary is the two night stay at the Andaz in NYC.
3 nights at Bahia Bustamante in Patagonia, South America looks pretty great to me
Two nights at Rue Cler Bijou apartment in Paris.
The William is well located, and looks modern and luxurious.
3 Nights At Le Sereno St Barts, Caribbean looks pretty awesome!

The William looks awesome with lots of local character and a great location!
I would love the three nights in St Barts to relax and enjoy the beauty!
My favorite, the 7 night stay at Jannah Burj Al Sarab in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
I would choose the Bellmere on Richards, Queensland because Australia is where our 34th anniversary vacation cruise is ending in 2016. Just look at the kangaroos wandering the grounds; if that’s not prototypical Australia, I don’t know what would be!
I had never hear of The Williams until today. Looks like an awesome property to stay!
I’d choose to stay at The William for two (2) reasons: the Nespresso coffee/tea machines in each room and the rooftop garden!
The Andaz on 5th Ave in NYC caught my eye, I’ll be bidding on that! Are there other auction sites like this? I am now on their mailing list and expect that I will be a heavy user (assuming I can get my Paypal account reactivated).
Going to NYC next summer. Would be great to stay at The William for free!
I’d love to stay at the William because of the location and it looks like a really nice place.
The Kalimba 4 night yacht charter in the Caribbean would be an ideal winter trip.
The private flight is definitely my choice out of the two auctions!

Has to be private jet from CA to NYC!
The William looks outstanding and it is nicer than many hotels in NY! I would love to stay there!
I would like to stay at the Williams as it would be far more spacious than the hotels I usually stay in.
I am bidding on the Andaz 5th avenue as it is a great hotel in a fabulous location.
My favorite item for auction would be the transcontinental flight between NY and California as I’ve never flown on a private jet before.
My favorite luxury item up for auction is the private plane from NY to CA. Wow!
My favorite item up for auction is the 2 night stay at the Park Hyatt in Buenos Aires!
