Luxury Travel Diary, a high-end travel blog with great reviews based in the UK, has a bunch of travel auctions — some about to close, others extend into October — and there look to be some real bargains.
They wanted to highlight some of these, and offered to help organize a giveaway of a 3 night hotel stay in a suite at a top property in New York for readers of this blog. Details on how to comment on this post to win below.
I suppose that folks who already know about these auctions won’t like the added attention, because frankly there aren’t enough bidders relative to the value of the offerings and some of these items go too cheap.
Here’s an auction ending in 3 days for a private jet flight between New York and California – a transcon – going for 1000 British pounds as of this writing. There’s no minimum/reserve price, which is ridiculous.
Or 3 nights in St. Barts for 103 pounds as I write this:
There’s page after page of auctions to scroll through, generally nice places that appear to be selling for less than they should.
Prize: a three-night stay in a terrace suite at The William New York – subject to availability with no blackouts.
The property is currently rated 11 out of 189 ‘specialty lodging’ options on TripAdvisor, with 4.5 stars.
The William is a modern extended stay hotel located near Bryant Park in Manhattan. Stay for a month or more and be immersed in a lifestyle localized in culture, yet tailored in service. Thoughtfully crafted for our discerning clientele, The William features thirty-three guest suites that leave no detail unexplored.
These reviews look pretty typical:
To enter: leave a comment on this post with your favorite item up for auction at Luxury Travel Diary, or why you would choose to stay at The William over other hotels in New York. You may enter two times if you wish and answer those two questions one time each in separate comments.
Contest deadline and drawing winner: Entries close Friday, October 2 at Noon eastern. I will draw winner with the assistance of random.org.
The fine print: For avoidance of doubt I have no affiliation with either Luxury Travel Diary or The William hotel. I will put the winner in touch with the hotel for booking. They are solely responsible for providing prize to winner. All decisions made in the course of running this giveaway are final and unappealable and your entry signifies your acceptance. The goal here is to make readers aware of a pretty cool auction opportunity, and to give away a suite stay in New York. So please don’t make it hard on me for doing so!
For auction items, I’m looking at “2 Nights At Sorrel River Ranch Resort, Utah” – never been to a ranch, never been to the Southwest…
Fav auction is “2 nights at the Hyatt Andaz Xintiandi, Shanghai, China”, so close to my “childhood” home and yet so away from where I currently call home. William looks modern, spacious, and brightly lit, would love to have a mini get away in those rooms 🙂
My favorite auction item would be the 7 nights at Hotel Marinedda Thalasso & Spa, Sardinia, It is an area of Italy that I have never been to.
Wow..look at The William. Its beautiful..lots of space which is not available in many hotels in Nyc and it has a great location!..I wish I can win this!

I like the William because of its location near Bryant Park.
I’d pick the 3 nights at Le Sereno in St. Barts! Looks like a lovely pool.
I’d stay at the William for its terraces and location.
I would love to stay at The William because it seems like a one of a kind extended stay hotel. The location and history of the building appeals to me, and I know my wife would enjoy the modern decor.
Love the 2 nights at Ô Hotel Fonte Santa, Nr Lisbon, Portugal. Going to Lisbon next summer for my honeymoon. Lisbon is a fantastic place and may even retire there down the road.
I’d stay at the William because I’m a big believer in the boutique experience. It’s usually a much more unique opportunity to see a city.
Without a doubt it’s the private jet across the country. What a better way to fly!
Love extended stay places. Looks like a beautiful space, and love the idea of a terrace in new york city!!
The private jet flight for 2 would be great fun.
My favorite auction item is 2 Nights At Shawnee Inn, Near New York In Pennsylvania, looks great for a getaway
I’d stay at The William because it’s in a great location for exploring NY
I’d go for 6 Nights For 6 At Shwari Watamu Villa, Kenya. Africa is the one continent I haven’t seen much of, besides Antarctica.
My favorite item up for auction on the Luxury Travel Diary, is the 4 NIGHTS AT MAKUNUDU ISLAND, MALDIVES. My wife and I plan to visit my family in Pakistan once a year, and it would be such a treat to experience this beach front bungalow resort as a detour on the way back home to the States.
It would be amazing to stay at the William while the Bryant Park ice rink is up and running!
Six nights in Kenya look like a steal
Looking forward to staying at the stylish William hotel.
I’d rather stay at The William than any other place in NYC because it just looks like more fun than any other place I’ve stayed in NYC.

Favorite item: Cross country flight from NYC to LAX. Who doesn’t love flying in a private jet?
Best auction for me is the HOTEL MARINEDDA THALASSO & SPA, SARDINIA
Why the hotel: Free hotel room in NYC? What’s not to like!
The William is in a great area, and the suites look amazing!
The 2 night stay at Langanes Luxury Villa in Iceland calls to me, because my girlfriend and I have been considering a trip to Iceland anyway. With the view of Eyjafjallajökull nearby, that place would be a great stay.
2 NIGHTS AT THE HYATT ANDAZ XINTIANDI, SHANGHAI, CHINA
Cottage in Kihei Hawaii.
The Williams looks amazing. I love their color palette, with the broad swaths and bright colors. The location is great, too, right near Grand Central.
Just bid on the auction in Maine, so that’s my favorite right now.
The Williams looks awesome! I’ve never seen so much space in a hotel room in NY, especially for extended stay!
Best auction for me is PRIVATE JET FLIGHT FOR 2 NY TO CA OR CA TO NY
I would love to win a trip and hotel deal. New York city is a great place to visit. I travel to new York quite a bit. Love the scenery.
Looking at the 2 Nights At The Hyatt Andaz Xintiandi, Shanghai, China. I often go to Hangzhou for business but it’d be great to stop by Shanghai for the weekend and stay at the Andaz.
Everything about The William looks delightful. I always try the boutique hotels in NYC. The bright colors alone are enough to make me want to stay there. The location near Bryant Park just adds to the allure!
I want to spend some time in Argentina and my favorite auction is the “2 Night Weekend Stay At Park Hyatt Buenos Aires” and winning that would give me the perfect reason to finally make it happen and explore the beautiful country.
My choice on the auction would be the stay at the Rue Cler Bijou apartment in Paris. It looks beautiful and would make up for the horrible apartment we rented in Paris a few years ago.
I would want to stay at the William because of its great central location and the extended stay nature of the hotel. It will almost be like I live in New York for a couple of days.
My favorite auction available is the 2 Nights At 7132 Hotel & Spa In Vals, Switzerland. Just because I can never get enough of Switzerland and it is usually very expensive to stay there without these auctions and discounts.
I would love to stay at The William, mainly because of it’s location. The proximity to Grand Central makes it a no-brainer to get anywhere in the city. It also looks like a modern hotel, directly in line with the vibe of midtown!
