Luxury Travel Diary, a high-end travel blog with great reviews based in the UK, has a bunch of travel auctions — some about to close, others extend into October — and there look to be some real bargains.
They wanted to highlight some of these, and offered to help organize a giveaway of a 3 night hotel stay in a suite at a top property in New York for readers of this blog. Details on how to comment on this post to win below.
I suppose that folks who already know about these auctions won’t like the added attention, because frankly there aren’t enough bidders relative to the value of the offerings and some of these items go too cheap.
Here’s an auction ending in 3 days for a private jet flight between New York and California – a transcon – going for 1000 British pounds as of this writing. There’s no minimum/reserve price, which is ridiculous.
Or 3 nights in St. Barts for 103 pounds as I write this:
There’s page after page of auctions to scroll through, generally nice places that appear to be selling for less than they should.
Prize: a three-night stay in a terrace suite at The William New York – subject to availability with no blackouts.
The property is currently rated 11 out of 189 ‘specialty lodging’ options on TripAdvisor, with 4.5 stars.
The William is a modern extended stay hotel located near Bryant Park in Manhattan. Stay for a month or more and be immersed in a lifestyle localized in culture, yet tailored in service. Thoughtfully crafted for our discerning clientele, The William features thirty-three guest suites that leave no detail unexplored.
These reviews look pretty typical:
To enter: leave a comment on this post with your favorite item up for auction at Luxury Travel Diary, or why you would choose to stay at The William over other hotels in New York. You may enter two times if you wish and answer those two questions one time each in separate comments.
Contest deadline and drawing winner: Entries close Friday, October 2 at Noon eastern. I will draw winner with the assistance of random.org.
The fine print: For avoidance of doubt I have no affiliation with either Luxury Travel Diary or The William hotel. I will put the winner in touch with the hotel for booking. They are solely responsible for providing prize to winner. All decisions made in the course of running this giveaway are final and unappealable and your entry signifies your acceptance. The goal here is to make readers aware of a pretty cool auction opportunity, and to give away a suite stay in New York. So please don’t make it hard on me for doing so!
I’d stay at the Williams- because at least its not in Midtown.
I would stay at the William over other hotels in the area because many can feel fairly stuffy, or are located in/around Times Square (would much prefer being off the SW corner of Bryant Park).
Skiing at the hotel Moizi in Sondrio seems pretty sweet.
The William! How can you not want to stay at a hotel named after a prince? Plus, rooms look larger then most hotel rooms, and I love Bryant Park. Would love to try a stay there!
I’d stay at The William because of how modern and up-to-date it is…looks very nice!
I saw 1 night at the hyatt regency sharm al sheikh egpyt – going to be in the region soon and will be a nice way to spend a night – especially if can get for cheap!
My fave item up for auction is the stay at the treehouse in Missouri! Unexpected luxury, I guess!
I would stay at the William because it’s so close to Grand Central – can literally get anywhere in the city or brooklyn from a few steps away
I think the trip on the jet would make you fell like a boss.
I like the private jet flight!
I’d stay at the William because of the excellent location!
My favorite LTD auction item currently on the list is the 1-night stay at Diamonds Start of the East in Zanzibar. Because Zanzibar. ‘Nuff said.
Auction: 2 nights in Singapore. I am heading there in January, so would be great if the hotel is covered 🙂
I heart new york!
Of course the Private Jet between NYC and CA… Great deal.
How could you not like The William, with spacious rooms. Just in time for my New York trip in November.
Love the treehouse option on the auction.
I would take the 6 nights for 6 at Shwari Watamu Villa, Kenya. I could take my family to see the beauty and majesty that is Kenya.
I would love the nights at the William so I could see any many Broadway plays as possible in a few days.
I’d have to go with the
2 Night Weekend Stay At Park Hyatt Buenos Aires
I miss Buenos Aires
I’d stay at The William just for the decor. Amazing!
I’d say that my favorite auction item would be the transcontinental private jet flight. This is a total bucket list item!
I look at the color pallet of The William and instantly think “What fun!”. Staying amid vivid designs sets the tone for an exciting NYC trip. Many boutique hotels stay safe with gray, I guess that’s ok if you plan on sleeping the whole time. Kudos to the Williams designers for bold choices.
The 5 Nights At Boutique Hotel Adriatic In Rovinj, Croatia looks amazing. Have always wanted to visit Croatia and this may just be the offer that gets me there!
I would stay at the Williams so that I don’t have to take the Path back to Newark.
The William looks like a great place to call home for a few days. The Bryant Park location is fantastic, and the amenities are something you don’t often find at many NYC boutique hotels.
I would love to visit NYC and not have to stay in a cheap dump.
My fav is the 5 Nights At Ka’ana & Itz’ana Resorts, Belize auction.
I would stay at the William because it’s not some cookie cutter clone with terrible decor.
I’d love a stay at The William as it’s such a cool looking place AND right next to my favorite NY urban spot, Bryant Park, where one can sip coffee in the summer and watch the world go by or ice skate over the holiday season!
I would stay at the William because it’s so close to Grand Central
I have never stayed at the William Hotel. In fact I am not aware of it in NYC. However I am a long standing and very respected museums director in Canada. I oversee some 2000 museums and art galleries in Canada and I am active internationally with UN agencies. I would love to have several nights in a terraced room at The William.

I’d stay at the William because I love to start the morning with a Nespresso before a long day of sight-seeing!
I have my eye on the action deal for a stay at the El Fonte Hotel in Portugal.
I neglected to say I have been in this field for over 40 yrs, and I have received an Honorary Degree and the Order of Canada for my contributions to the museums and arts of Canada as well as my international role. You can google me to see all this.

Auction: 2 nights at the Singapore Hyatt. That would be a lot cheaper than what I’m currently scheduled to do.
I’d love to stay at the William because it looks like an amazingly roomy experience compared to the normally cramped rooms in the city.
I’ve never flown on a private jet before! I’d love to win!
That Terrace Suite at the William looks so dreamy!
I’d stay at the William just because most hotels don’t have lovely terraces!
There are a few reasons why The William is my top choice for NYC hotels. The Bryant Park location is incredibly central and makes it easy to get anywhere else in the city. The colorfully decorated rooms are fun, unique and inviting. Would also love to try the restaurants, especially the Peacock.
Favorite item on the auction list is probably the 2 nights at the Andaz Shanghai Xintiandi!
My favorite auction item on Luxury Travel Diary is the 2 night weekend stay at Park Hyatt Buenos Aires. Some of my favorite hotels have been Park Hyatts, and I’d love to check out the one in BA. Plus, the price is an absolute steal! https://www.luxurytraveldiary.com/auction/?ult_auc_id=15176
The William looks like it has a fresh decor and theme compared to many hotels in NYC, would make for a fun stay!
I’d stay at the William because of its great central location for holiday shopping.
I really want to fly that private jet
Can’t beat the location for Williams hotel to Bryant park!
Stay at the William because it’s free!
The transcontinental jet trip sounds like my choice.
I commute to NY but have never stayed in the city. The William looks fantastic!
