News and notes from around the interweb:
- United flight attendants being pressed to clean planes
- Luxury travel is now bundling minor celebrities as guides and various creative types because “[t]here’s only so much caviar and champagne you can give passengers..”
- 8 airplanes converted into restaurants
- Travel is Free has a new podcast with BikeGuy whose ‘Ann Arbor Art Fair DO’ group I spoke to many years ago. Some of the best mileage tricks ever were shared through that group. They have way too kind words for me and this blog towards the end of the recording.
- United is covering up the cameras on seat back video screens of course their new standard isn’t to offer screens domestically anyway.
- Etihad is removing seat back screens in short haul economy in favor of bring your own device entertainment.
There are huge problems with this. Watching a movie on a phone isn’t the same as on a screen in front of you. Many families don’t have enough devices to go around. Is there acceptable power for all customers in the row to use? Customers generally don’t even realize they have to download the app prior to push back. Customers connecting from abroad probably aren’t paying for data roaming to do so anyway. Cost-cutting move that cuts the passenger experience.
