Avis: 20,000 Miles Per 3 Day Rental, Earn 3 Times [Up to 60,000 Miles]

You can earn 20,000 Etihad Guest miles per 3+ day Avis rental. This is in addition to the usual base miles earned renting cars.

Full terms, but some key items:

  • Book by August 17
  • Rent September 1 – November 30
  • Valid in USA (excluding Alaska), Canada, Europe, Middle East, Africa and Asia (excluding Pacific)
  • Must book through www.avisworld.com/etihad
  • Rent an intermediate (group c) vehicle or above
  • Not combinable with any other AWD discount or promotion

I’m not sure I’ve seen a richer rental car offer since 2008.

Don’t let the fact that the offer is for Etihad Guest miles stop you. Etihad miles are easy to get since the program is a transfer partner of American Express, Capital One and Citibank.

And Etihad’s miles aren’t just good for Etihad redemptions, but also American Airlines redemptions – if you can find saver award space their prices are similar to what American charged for awards before devaluing AAdvantage in 2016. And they have a wide variety of other airline partners as well such as Air Canada, ANA, Brussels Airlines, and more.

  1. This is a pretty sweet deal on the surface, but I’d be hesitant to go out of my way to rent because the linked terms and conditions conflict with the ones on the page.

When you click through, the headline says:

“Reservation Period: From 14 August to 17 August 2022”

However, when you open the T&C link at the bottom of the page says:

This Promotion is valid for reservations made from 2 August 2022, 12:00:01 AM GST to 5 August 2022, 11:59:59 PM GST

…which, if true, means that the promotion has already expired. That’s probably a mistake, but it calls into question whether they can weasel out of awarding the miles.

The other thing to keep in mind is that use of any Avis discount code other than the one linked from that page invalidates the deal, which means that there’s a good chance you’ll end up overpaying for the rental since the Etihad discount code is meh. Then again, 20K Ethihad points are probably worth at least $200, so maybe it’s worth it.

  2. Just checked rates at SNA for 4 days in October. $1500 on this Etihad link. On avis.com with no discount codes $350

  3. Thanks for the tip but did you check the rates using the code? I find these airline tie-IBs thst xant combine with other AWDs to be about 30% higher rates, a suckers play.

  4. This Promotion is valid for reservations made from 2 August 2022, 12:00:01 AM GST to 5 August 2022, 11:59:59 PM GST

  5. I’m getting the 3 days required for as low as $300 during the promotional period (I believe weekends are cheaper) at SNA. Cheapest car as this is strictly a “mileage run”!
    Worth it?
But how to use these Etihad miles?
How many EY miles required to flay – say – LAX to Abu Dhabi (AUH)?

  6. This was a great deal for me as I was about to book an Avis rental anyway for Labor day weekend. Unfortunately when I get to the confirmation page where a credit card is required to be held…my US based Chase Sapphire Reserve (used for all of my past rental cars many times incl Avis) is apparently giving this UK based web page an issue as it won’t confirm

  7. click on the specs and it will give the group type the vehicle is in. All mid-sizes are not in the same group.
