The Best Card Offer Right Now That Many Of You Can’t Get

Ink Business Preferred℠ Credit Card

This card launched around 8 months ago with a big signup bonus and strong points-earning. But it’s a $95 annual fee card, not a $450 annual fee card.

It comes with an 80,000 Point Signup Bonus: Spend $5000 on your new card within 3 months and you’ll get 80,000 points. As you’ll see below, that can even be enough for a roundtrip business class award ticket between the US and Europe. (Chase points are super valuable because they transfer directly to a variety of airlines and hotels.)

And earning is strong with 3 Points Per Dollar on Travel — that’s airlines, hotels, rental cars, tolls, even Uber — and 3 Points Per Dollar on Shipping and Advertising on Social Media and Search Engines which is great for anyone who advertises on Facebook or Twitter, or who spends money advertising with Google.

Unlike earlier Ink products with bonus category earning capped at $25,000 or $50,000 spending in a year, the cap on this card is $150,000.

But the biggest reason I want this card is to put my next cell phone purchase on it. That’s because it comes with $600 protection against theft or damage for your cell phone.

Get up to $600 per claim in cell phone protection against covered theft or damage for you and your employees listed on your monthly cell phone bill when you pay it with your Chase Ink Business Preferred credit card. Maximum of 3 claims in a 12 month period with a $100 deductible per claim.

I got my cell phone’s cracked screen covered when I paid for it with my Chase Sapphire Preferred Card — but that was purchase protection, cracked the screen shortly after I purchased the phone.

This benefit is significant, it’s real ongoing cost savings, since I view it as replacing a monthly cost for insurance on a phone.

Points transfer to Singapore Airlines, Korean Air, Air France, United, and more. 80,000 Korean Air points are enough for a roundtrip business class ticket between the US and Europe (using airlines like Air France or Delta.)

The rub is that “5/24 limits” apply to the card. That’s not a surprise, there are cards that Chase won’t give to some people who have had 5 or more new cards within the last 24 months.

I’d say that the majority of people who comment on this blog have had 5 or more new cards within the last 24 months and won’t be able to get this card. Although the majority of people who read this blog are not shut out by this and ought to consider it.

Comments

  1. How amenable is Chase likely to be to granting a second bus. card (already have the Ink Cash) to someone who only loosely has a “business” and only uses about $500 a month on the existing card?

  2. Would you put your $200 cell phone bill on ink cash at 5x, or go with this and 3x? Essentially giving up 400 points/month for $16 of insurance costs.

  3. @Gary — From the title of this post and the name of the card, the Chase Ink Business Preferred, I was thinking yeah, most of us will never be able to get it since relatively few people have their own business. Getting past the 5/24 rule is only a matter of time for anyone with a semi-decent credit rating, but being able to provide a EIN tax ID number is something that relatively few Americans can do.

  4. @Luke Vader – A sole proprietor using his or her own SSN is sufficient for the application. Even if it weren’t, it’s not hard for a person to get an EIN as a sole propretorship.

  5. Does anyone know how to get pre-approved for business card and by pass 5/24? It’s been over a year that I’ve open my Ink plus and still no pre-approval offer for any other business card.

  6. No comment on any Wells Fargo card which offers the same cell phone insurance with no annual fee, or that you can get the card as many times as you want and get the signup bonus?

  7. Do you actually have to buy your phone with the card? I read it as paying your monthly bill with card to get the insurance.

  8. Gary,

I’m still within my 5/24 limit so I could apply for this but I already have the INK Busines PLUS card. Will that exclude me from the signup bonus?

  9. @Dave – the added bonus of the Wells Fargo card is that you don’t even need to apply. Your local bank will do it on your behalf. 😉

  10. I just got the Chase Ink Preferred and it seems to me that most people can get it. If you got any sort of business at all, or say you got got a business, you qualify. Sell Etsy stuff? Own a rental house? Babysit? Part time musician? Buy and sell stuff on Ebay? You got a business. I just used my own social security number and they do NOT ask for proof of your business such as a business license or EIN. Just tell them you got a a business of some sort.

  11. I am way over 5/24. Around 12/24 and got denied for the Sapphire Reserve. However, I was approved for this card by going into a Chase branch and having a Business Relationship Manager submit a “Paper Application”. It got approved!

  12. I went to a Chase brach, spoke to the Branch Relations Manager, just like the blogs said to do, he recommended acceptance and filled out the application. I got denied. And not by a person, but an email. Said the person who I later spoke to, ” we looked at your credit report and you have too many cards.” All that is bunk b/c my report showed noting but NO late or missing payments with most accounts already closed.

And, there is NO reconsideration. They look at the report, do a count and your out. That you’ve been a customer with an excellent credit report and score is of NO concern to Chase. The manager made calls to his “expert” all to no avail.

So now I bring my business to AMEX. Vote with your feet; if you don’t like the service, take your business elsewhere – and let them know about it.

  13. I’ve read that Chase business cards are subject to 5/24 for approval but do not count in the 5/24 calculation for approval of another Chase card. Can anyone verify that?

  14. I got the card, we do not own a business, we saw a short term ad about 100k points (that’s expired now) went in and filled out the formed and had to wait for approval. We did not 100k points, that was only for larger businesses. Thing is we do not have a business, we are looking at starting a business, I clearly explained all of this to the chase rep., about a week later I got an email saying we were approved and then got the card a few days later. Btw I am pretty sure we have had 5 cards in 24 months.

we paid my wife’s tuition with it, will use it to buy the extended warranty on our year old Subaru forester and pay our phone bill in advance for a year, this will get us past the $5k in 3 month thing.

we also have a couple of friends who are helping by letting us pay for their purchases of $250. or more and writing us a check to cover the purchase. just make sure your friends are financially stable and you really can trust them. : )

  15. I have an old Ink Plus and Ink Bold. Can I product change one of my cards to this card , without a credit pull? The bonus categories would work better for me.
