News and notes from around the interweb:
- Capital One tries to shut down a blog for talking about them without authorization.
- The proper way to set your passport on fire.
- A rundown of Heathrow’s new Star Alliance terminal 2 which will open in June
- Jet Airways JetPrivilege is being spun off into a separate company that will be 51% owned by Etihad.
- Wyndham is offering double points on your first 4 stays by March 21. Wyndham Visa cardholders earn an additional 500 points per stay as well.
- Is Gogo inflight internet an unlawful monopoly? The claim strkes me as silly, it’s a substantially contested market, Gogo isn’t even profitable, and I think it’s hard to claim that their substantial investments in inflight internet have somehow harmed the consumer. They’ve materially improved my life. Go, Gogo, and to the litigants in this class — shut up and go away.

The link to the Cap One story doesn’t seem to be working.
So on my third attempt to open the link to the story about the blog getting shut down – it finally opened, but horribly slowly – does that mean Capital One was successful?
They were not successful. I had to get the security company on the phone in the UK (the US number was a dud) and finally got confirmation from the legal teams of the host that the site was clear.
We are migrating away from this host over the weekend, since not only do they appear slow (my apologies for that) but also their actions in this were really disappointing.
We are talking now with Cap One to see what went wrong and will explain further, it is my gut feeling that they retained RSA security and somewhere on that end someone went for a ‘shoot first, ask questions later’ approach to things…
Gary–thanks for the mention! It’s much appreciated. I heard back a little while ago from Cap One PR, they apologized, said we’re free to discuss them, and said their IT people are looking into why we received that notice from them. If the page isn’t loading, it’s because we’ve been having issues with our web hosting provider unrelated to the CapOne thing. We’re moving to a new server this weekend so hopefully that will take care of it.
