American Airlines is having trouble getting a mechanics contract done. They blame themselves for giving mechanics a mid-contract pay raise, so there’s not as much money for mechanics to get by agreeing to a contract. Mechanics are unhappy with the potential for the airline to outsource jobs.
But what if you didn’t even need mechanics to repair planes? The FAA hasn’t approved this, but televangelist Kenneth Copeland claims that G-d healed the corrosion on his private jet.
Why not take this further. We need religious figures, not mechanics, and there’s really no need for new Boeing jets anymore either. Just keep using whatever airlines already have. Kind of like Delta.
We were blessed to have an airplane that — it was a Vickers Viscount. And a man on our board of directors owned that airplane, and his financial situation had come to the place where, particularly after he got born again and… I won’t go into all that. But that airplane had been parked for several years.
And it was a four-engine turbo-prop airliner. So this is back in the days when George first came along and, oh man, we had — we had fun in that old airplane, didn’t we? Well, we — you know — we put that thing back — back into service. We went through that airplane from head to — from nose to tail. And they did X-rays of the fuselage and everything looking for corrosion. And there was — there was some — there wasn’t all that bad, but there was — there was the X-rays showed that there were some spots of corrosion. And so I was — I was praying over it. And just as plain, the Lord said to me, “Lay hands on it. I’ll heal it.”
What?! I heard it plain. “Well,” He said, “Kenneth.” He said, “Corrosion comes from the Curse.” He said, “I provided that airplane for you, didn’t I?” I said, “Yes, sir.” He said, “Lay hands on it.” Okay.
And I started praying in the Spirit. And the more I prayed in the Spirit, the happier I got. So I just went up — oh man, you talk about laying hands on that thing. I laid hands on it all over. And it’s a big old airplane. It took a while to do it, you know. Laid hands on that thing. Just laid hands on it all over it, and praised God and laid hands on that, and commanded that corrosion to leave in Jesus’ name.
They did more X-rays and came back, and there was just one little old spot there. I said, “Lord, what –” “No,” He said, “I’m going to remind you.” I said, “Uh, what are you reminding me of?” He said, “They could have said, ‘Maybe the — maybe the X-rays were wrong.’”
Are you listening? So we laid hands on it again, and it was gone.
This appears to contradict past claims by Copeland’s ministry. A decade ago he raised money for Haitian relief flights that never took place, with a spokesperson later claiming “this was not a specific promise with a time line attached” and explaining that the funds were spent on plane repairs.
Copeland’s ministry owns a Gulfstream V which was purchased from Tyler Perry along with several other aircraft (in 2008 they disclosed owning 5 planes). The minister describes flying commercial as getting in a long tube with a bunch of demons. Here he is taking possession of Tyler Perry’s jet:
Let’s stop though for a moment and ponder something. Kenneth Copeland says that:
- The lord speaks to him
- And spends time fixing aircraft
Here’s what I want to know:
(HT: @PlaneBusiness)
Okay, so clearly Copeland is a nutter. We get that. It would also be cool if you would highlight some of the wonderful work done by millions of more sane people of faith every single day.
@Tom – this in no way takes anything away from that all..!
As a Christian, I’m not supposed to hate anybody.
I can say I strongly dislike this guy, because, in general, he’s a bad representation of the way Jesus would have lived (you know, because he was a normal, everyday guy and what-not).
@Gary, I don’t think it takes away from all the good religious people do!
Does it take a plane crash to prove he is wrong?
Nothing new in trump’s America.
Just another hypocrite like so many others – osteen, pence, huckabee the huckster – exploiting imbeciles full of prejudice, uneducated ignorant hillbillies.
I so thought that this was going to be about another goat sacrificed.
I’m shocked, shocked, to hear that give an out of cycle pay increase to union members did not engender any goodwill.
@Michael Que he’ll simply blame those on the godless Democrats, gays, abortion-havers, and colored peoples.
I wouldn’t consider spreading fake news a good thing that religious people do. If they could just do good things without spreading their false beliefs it would do the world a whole lot better. There’s more than enough fake news going around, we don’t need weirdos that believe in imaginary friends to be spreading more. Is getting people to believe in leprechaus and unicorns really doing good?
Nobody can show that praying does any more good than wishing.
I came to read about unions, negotiations, raises, strikes, and overall aviation issues.
Nice opening, and tantalizing headline. As I read it, I knew anybody who promotes their blog as “Thought leader in Travel” would bring the focus of the article back to aviation mechanic issues. I was hoodwinked.
If I want religion, I will go to church, mosque, shrine, etc…..
Not sure who is nuttier. Kenneth Copeland or Gary Leff.
They both should be accused of identity theft!
As stated above, of course no proof any of this ever worked.
But realize this guy is doing us a favor. By still existing, it reminds us that there are still people out there that are so hopeless or brainwashed or uneducated or perhaps just plain dumb enough to fall for this stuff – or to put it more charitably, that sending this guy their last dime gives them some measure of comfort.
And they will all vote for Trump. Their vote actually counts the same as yours. So if you want change, you need to counter their vote with yours in November.
This happens all the time. Why, just the other day I wanted to go for a pee but didn’t have time. G-d went for me.
Unfortunately, it was in my shorts.
