Delta Flight Crashes In Toronto: Plane Lands Upside Down, Wings Torn Away—Miracle Survival for All Onboard

Delta Airlines flight 4819 from Minneapolis to Toronto appears to have been involved in a crash on landing. The plane is upside down. It appears that the wings have broken off the aircraft.

Initial reports are that everyone made it off safely and is accounted for. Hopefully that holds. However it also appears that up to 8 people may have been injured.

The Bombardier CRJ-900 (registration N932XJ) was operated by Endeavor Air, which is a wholly-owned regional subsidiary of Delta. It touched down at 2:13 p.m. local time. This story is developing.

  1. WOW. Thanks for sharing this. Would you consider sharing/posting on BlueSky instead of (or in addition to) Xitter? Many have migrated there.

  2. Thank goodness for no casualties Hope it stays that way and the injuries aren’t too bad. An alarming number of incidents recently, safe travels everyone.

  3. On the photos I noticed the doors are open but the slide didn’t get deployed.

I am guessing the FA had the soundness of mind to dis-arm the door so that the slides wouldn’t deploy and slow down evacuation.

  4. @Michael

You are wrong. It is Canada’s fault. They are just a bunch of America haters that rip each other off with high prices and an idiot leader named Justin. If the plane had landed in the U.S., all would have been fine.

Canada, in violation of the USMCA and previous NAFTA treaty, bans Americans from buying a house in Canada but America (particularly Florida) doesn’t ban Canada. PrezTrump should threaten to bomb Ottawa unless the Canadians get rid of the ban. Canada started it.

  5. If there are no causalities, that is truly impressive because upside-down, no wings looks like it rolled, and to get out of that unscathed would be impressive. Hoping for the best for those involved. If so, then Delta, its crew, and the Canadian authorities at Toronto Pearson indeed pulled off a small miracle.

@Michael — Don’t worry, those guys always come out (I won’t name names, but it would be similarly surprising if they did not jump at the opportunity to immediately politicize others suffering). If not those topics (which you mentioned above), they’ll likely jokingly (or half-seriously) parrot ‘the king’s’ absurd claim for annexation of the ‘51st state’—again, also shameful. Most of us still honor our allies and support their sovereignty as well.

  6. I’m not worried because the Delta Air Lines corporate slogan was, “Delta gets you there with care.”
Keep climbing Delta. Unfortunately, a plane crash may ruin your afternoon.

  7. It’s amazing Threaten to fire air traffic controllers via email — followed by actually firing all trainers and new hires — and what is this own 5 air incidents ?

  8. Jonathon,
This crash will be handled by Canadian authorities-the NTSB more than likely will be in a support role.

  9. Nearly all of Delta’s Toronto departures are cancelled for the rest of the day. MSP departure cancelled because the plane is broken and flipped over. DTW departures and ATL departure cancelled. Some morning departures took off.

  10. Bad wind and a bad thermal? Even without a bad thermal, a little bank and a hard wind can tip things (and apparently roll).

  11. 1990 gets it.

Amazing if everyone managed to get off alive.

Hard to believe this wasn’t related to high winds and gusts.

  12. @Charlie isn’t too bright. He doesn’t seem to understand the incident took place in Canada. Trump is not President there. Yet.

  13. @Tim Dunn — If anyone’s been in an auto accident, especially one where you ‘roll,’ it often leads to traumatic physical (and mental) injuries. And even if you aren’t the one maimed, it can be a loved one, so then you have the ‘guilt’ and extra resources that goes with that. Just saying, it’s a little more serious, and I really feel for these folks.

@Michael — See above @Jim and @derek, who clearly took the bait, whether sarcastic or serious. Sheesh!

  14. 1990,
yes, accidents of any kind – not just involving transportation, leave all kinds of scars.

In light of the accidents worldwide in 2024, this one ended up not only much better than it could have been but likely will not involve deaths according to Canadian officials who will oversee the investigation since the plane was not only built in Canada but crashed on Canadian soil

  15. @tim Dunn

Alan Parsons “all he says is pysychobabble”. Winds were gusting to 35k. A go around and divert should have been executed.

  16. @Jim, who’s making fun of anyone? But if I’m ever in a serious plane crash, which with this administration seems like a real possibility, if that happens you do you.

  17. @michael

Is this administration flying the planes? Absurd comment. It takes a minimum of 1-2 years flight training to reach the regionals. All airlines have made it a priority to hire DEI the last few years. They lowered the total required flight time including PIC, jet, multi, type , and night.

  18. @Gena, thanks for proving my point. Like I said, ““It was DEI and the pilots were trans” in 3…2…1…

  19. Derek..”You are wrong, It’s Canada’s fault” Quote!

Derek, You are without a doubt a certifiable f**ked in the head absolute incompetent moron and raging idiot. It’s people like you who are allowed to speak unsupervised that they invented censorship for.. Please do us all a favor shut your dumbass piehole and climb back in your sewer..

  20. @michael

That is a correct statement. Flying scholarships state for minority only. Airlines publish and boast they are pushing for a more inclusive pilot group. They publish it on the employees websites. It is no secret.

  21. I’m sure some have been thinking that the airplane was doing it’s Boeing impression. Both this and the airplane that crashed in Washington are not Boeing products.

  22. Luckily, the injured are in Canada and will not be facing bankruptcy for their medical bills vs. if they landed in BUF. It is amazing no one was killed or that the number of injuries weren’t higher. Just how does one get out of a seatbelt when hanging upside down?

Cynical me, DL will probably offer them a travel voucher for compensation and require a release of claims for it.

  23. I just looked it up. Visitors to Canada do not get free medical as that is reserved for citizens and permanent residents. A visitor either has to pay out of pocket or have insurance. Medical costs are high for such visitors who need medical attention. It used to be that Canadians who couldn’t get appointments soon enough with their national healthcare would come to the Buffalo area to get medical care and pay out of pocket. I’m not sure how much of that happens now.

  24. One advantage of ending up upside down is that getting out of a door isn’t a long drop to the ground. It also looks like most had their winter clothes on and most didn’t grab their luggage (except some were with what looked like personal items.) Possibly most of the carry-on sized roller bags were checked into the hold.

  25. hey ghost
    you are clearly unhinged.

Every day you run around thinking that everyone has it out for AA should have been enough of a clue.

  26. @Gene — You must be joking. High winds. Not DEI; not the President.

@Mike P — What in ‘hate speech’ are you even talking about anymore.

Y’all are losing your mind. Get help.

  27. @Construction — You must be new here. Feel free to look back at other posts and comments. You’ll quickly notice that Andy S is a notorious bigot and right-wing troll on here. So, don’t expect much from him other than hate speech (like, he instinctively blames anything and everything on ‘DEI’ which for lack of subtlety is how he expresses his apparent racism to us internet strangers). In fact, there are a few others just like him (or it’s all the same guy and he switches monikers to pretend like the drivel he shares is more common than it really is). For instance, above, I said ‘@Mike P’ when I meant ‘@Andy S’ because those two are practically interchangeable. Same goes for @Mantis, who ironically hasn’t commented in a while. Gary doesn’t moderate much, so some of us who frequent his site do our best to ‘call out’ these gas bags on our own time. Anyway, safe travels.
