News and notes from around the interweb:
- Scenes From the Terrifying, Already Forgotten JFK Airport Shooting That Wasn’t
- Radpad has instituted a $4.95 fee for paying rent via debit card. They’re reducing their credit card fees to 2.99%, but Plastiq is cheaper at 2.5%. Radpad’s AndroidPay free option is best through end of year of course.
- Sydney Opera House to get $202 million makeover
- 10 abandoned airports around the world
- My bottom line on Delta’s plan to introduce business class suites with doors on a portion of their international fleet:
But while business-class suites with doors are a big deal, “It’s going to take a long time to see them. At the end of four years they’re only going to be offered on a portion of Delta’s fleet,” notes Gary Leff, who writes the View from the Wing blog. “But it’s a solid attempt to improve the business-class experience, and a direction we’ll see airlines head that are betting on business rather than first class as their future.”
- Printing a fake boarding pass to get through airport security can get you sent to jail. This is especially true when it’s an international flight, departing a country that requires you to clear departing immigration. While not strictly kosher, it would be better to buy a refundable ticket, go airside to visit with whomever you wish, and then refund your ticket. At least you’re not forging documents.
- Mariah Carey billboard ad is being rejected by two Southern California airports. The airports say it isn’t a ban of her ample bosom “barely covered by a gold sheet” but rather a ‘request to revise the ads’ (I’m not sure that this is a meaningful distinction). The best argument the airports could make, I think, it that they “don’t want any, um … distractions for the pilots trying to land planes…”
USA Today? Never gets old plugging….
I don’t understand your headline here. How exactly do you earn miles paying rent with a debit card? It seems like you would need to use a miles-earning credit card, not a debit card.
Robert D – you might use a debit card purchased with a credit card that earned miles.
