FatWallet is Shutting Down

I haven’t spent time on FatWallet in years. I used to use their cash back shopping portal quite a lot for Expedia purchases, and sometimes for Priceline hotel bookings after you could no longer earn eBay Anything Points (which I’d then move to Cathay Pacific’s AsiaMiles at better than 1-to-1 back when you could book a roundtrip to Europe for 60,000 points — or 35 four-star hotel bookings).

However I wrote a hotel and an airfare booking FAQ on the site back in 2004. That’s the same year the phrase ‘App-o-Rama’ was coined as far as I know by a member there called ‘SuckIsStaples’. Back then people used to apply for credit cards in search of $30 signup bonuses.

FatWallet sold to Ebates in 2011, and Ebates sold to Rakuten in 2014. The FatWallet shopping portal is long gone, and soon FatWallet will be gone as well. The exact date has not yet been disclosed. RIP.

  1. It wasn’t about $30 signup bonuses. It was about balance transfers. Get $10k into your checking account and then buy stocks, CD’s or what ever for a year or 18 mos at 0% interest and 0 fees.
Pretty sweet and then came points …. which is way more fun

  2. I have only good things to say about FatWallet. Especially since I earned enough for an iPhone X and Apple Watch 3. Simply by running as many web purchases I could through them I received back $1,897.08 before being transferred to earning from eBates.

  3. Once the state of illinois cracked down on online sales tax cheats their margin was gone. Even skipping out of state to avoid paying taxes or selling out to ebates wasn’t going to change that.

  4. @Carl staples is involved with another website now. I this it is fragiledeals.com. There is another FW clone site which is fragiledeal.com. Two similar urls
