A couple of days ago I mentioned that this blog would be carried both in its usual place and over at the National Car Rental Facebook Page as part of their ‘Go Like a Pro’ feature.
Since National is a perennial favorite of business travelers for their ‘Emerald Aisle’ (pick your own car offering), it makes sense to bring unfiltered travel advice to their customers through their communications channels, I think it’s what I would do if I were them also, brand myself as the place for savvy travelers period and explain my offerings that way too.
They’re not paying me, I do have elite status with National (though they aren’t the only rental car chain with which I have status), and I asked them if they might have a few things I could give away to my readers.
One of the best things a serious traveler can have is a serious roll aboard, and they’ve generously offered a Victorinox Werks Traveler 4.0 to be given away to one of my readers.
They sent this photo of the bag:
For some sense of things, it looks like Amazon has the bag discounted from $500 down to $300. It’s a serious bag, and hopefully giving it away makes this a serious blog too. Hah!

- Only enter once. Anyone leaving more than one comment will not be eligible to win.

This is a giveaway, I don’t get anything by offering it, all interpretations of rules are mine and it isn’t mean to be a strict terms and conditions just a friendly gesture to benefit readers. If you have a question, please don’t post it as a comment here since you only get one entry! Instead email me.
Enter away, good luck on the carry on, and thanks for the giveaway opportunity, National!
I like a lightweight rollabaord with usable pockets and expandability.
Great blog! Lightweight, tough zippers, and good rollers!
Lightweight, durable and easy to roll.
When looking for a rental, price is number one but the ability to upgrad weighs into the equation as well.
bag- superlight, durable, expandable, (w/lead lining – lol)
For me, the most important things about a rollaboard bag are:
1. durability
2. fits in overhead bins
3. weight. Less weight of bag = more stuff to load inside for me!
Whenrenting cars I like to use the kiosks becuase they are usually much quicke. I also appreciate a quick turnaround when dropping off.
Thanks, Gary, for making this prize available to your readers! The bag is just what I need to fit airline concourse sizers.
Top considerations in a rollerboard:
Weight
Durability
Space to compartmentalize
What I like in a carry on bag is the ability to be both light weight, have different compartments and easy to fit in the overhead.
I like my rental car to have an aux-in port so I can listen to my iPhone while I travel!
Nothing matters more in a carry-on than weight.
Looks like a really good bag. BTW, I am a long-time fan of your blog.
What I like in a rental car are major controls ( headlights, AC/heating, windows, radio) that operate intuitively.
A carry on bag has to be light enough to wheel comfortable in an airport and I like it when it is small enough to fit in the overhead bin.
I like my rental car to be clean, with the gas tank full. I now warm the car up to make sure the level is full. A few times in the past, I drove off only to find the level far from full.
Best bag features: weight (and not much else). Have really liked the Rick Steves bags in the past, but would love to try something new.
I like my bag to have a separate compartment on the inside of the lid for shoes, toiletries, etc.
I like the challenge of a RTW trip with a single carry-on!
In a bag, I look for zippers that do not break.
Nothing better than selectng a brand new rental car, and having a new bag to go in it.
In a carry on bag I like a light weight bag.
In a rental car, we like hybrids!
I love the surprise of getting an upgrade in a rental car because they are out of the standard car I booked !! They are typically lower mileage and newer.
What I like in carry on bag is minimum weight, durability and being able to pack enough clothes to get me through my business trip! What I like in a rental car is getting upgraded to something other than the norm!
I like a bag that’s light, doesn’t damage easily, and fits in the overhead bin.
Durable, light (trying to keep under the typical 10-12KG limits on some euro airlines), fits in overhead, and most importantly – maneuverable.
Cars should be clean and odor free. And no Chevy Impalas!
I like a carry-on bag that is lightweight and rolls easily. I also like durability!
What i’d like in a rental car is a complementary pack of wet wipes, as you can never have enough of those…and more than one trash bag.
I like being able to choose my rental car. I always rent from companies that allow me to choose cars from the lot vs companies who just assign cars.
I like a carry-on bag that is lightweight and just under the standard maxiumum allowable size. I also like bag that have heavy-duty zippers for durrability
I like a carry on bag that has a multitude of pockets.
Sirius radio is a must have for me when renting a car.
Wow that is some serious responses. I like a bag with a warranty
I love being able to pick my own car.
Thanks, National!
I like bags that are lightweight and durable, and it wouldnt hurt if it had a bit more pizzazz than the standard black (hot pink anyone?) 🙂
For me the perfect carry on has an outside pocket to hold my liquids bag. I have gone from being an over-packer to a zealous carry on only traveler. I only use the bag for clothing and toiletries. My iPad, charger, and phone travel in a small back pack. An outside pocket for the liquids bag means not having to open bags to go through security!
I like a roll aboard with spinner wheels.
I like a rental car to have less than 15,000 miles, working windshield wipers, and not to smell like smoke.
All of these are things that have been “exactly” absent from one of National’s competitors on recent rentals. To their credit, though, they’ve made things right every time.
I’m partial to Briggs&Riley. But the Victorinox bags have the handle that turns 90 degrees, which makes it much easier to pull.
I like a carry-on bag to be light and to be expandable.
I prefer National for my rental car company because I get to choose my car. There are lots of other reasons, but this is the singular most important difference between National and the other rental companies.
Light and fits in an overhead bin for me.
I like anything that speeds up the check out process. I particularly like when I am not forced to listen to an upsale pitch.
Lots of pockets, for extra storage!
I like a bag that is durable and fits within the overhead compartment. I like it to expand in the rare instances I make a purchase for my wife and/or child.
Sturdiness!
Love being able to pick my own rental car.
Red car for me
My bag has to be durable and, when zipped to it’s smallest size, must meet the dimension requirments for carrying on the airlines.
