A couple of days ago I mentioned that this blog would be carried both in its usual place and over at the National Car Rental Facebook Page as part of their ‘Go Like a Pro’ feature.
Since National is a perennial favorite of business travelers for their ‘Emerald Aisle’ (pick your own car offering), it makes sense to bring unfiltered travel advice to their customers through their communications channels, I think it’s what I would do if I were them also, brand myself as the place for savvy travelers period and explain my offerings that way too.
They’re not paying me, I do have elite status with National (though they aren’t the only rental car chain with which I have status), and I asked them if they might have a few things I could give away to my readers.
One of the best things a serious traveler can have is a serious roll aboard, and they’ve generously offered a Victorinox Werks Traveler 4.0 to be given away to one of my readers.
They sent this photo of the bag:
For some sense of things, it looks like Amazon has the bag discounted from $500 down to $300. It’s a serious bag, and hopefully giving it away makes this a serious blog too. Hah!
- All you need to do to enter is leave a comment to this post, either what you like in a carry on bag or in a rental car.
- Only enter once. Anyone leaving more than one comment will not be eligible to win.
- I will draw a winning comment at random using random.org
- The contest will remain open for entries through Sunday, April 24 at 6pm Eastern.
This is a giveaway, I don’t get anything by offering it, all interpretations of rules are mine and it isn’t mean to be a strict terms and conditions just a friendly gesture to benefit readers. If you have a question, please don’t post it as a comment here since you only get one entry! Instead email me.
Enter away, good luck on the carry on, and thanks for the giveaway opportunity, National!
I look for a carryon that maximizes how much it holds within the size limits.
After a long flight, the last thing I want to do is stand in another line to pick up a rental car and then back in line if I don’t like the car they offered. National’s Emerald Isle rocks my socks, in out and on my way. Just Perfect! And the Victorinox is a killer, a total dream bag for any solid travel warrior. I’d love it if I won.
For carryon bags, durability. For cars, probably price.
My favorite kind of rental car is one that is ready when I get there. If its clean, even better. Everything else is gravy.
durability and utility
I like a roll aboard size bag that is light, but it should also be expandable and have big pockets througout the bag.
I, too, am big on durability with my carry-on bags. I tend to chew through cheaper ones and should probably invest in a more reliable one – whether I win this contest or not! As always, Gary, thanks for all you do for your readers.
I like rental car companies that don’t bill you for fake damages. Yeah that’s you Hertz.
What I like in a carry-on bag are:
0) durability
1) space and weight economy
2) enough compartments
3) cool color scheme 🙂
I like large carry-ons, but need something really durable. I move around a lot and tend to destroy luggage
For rental cars, price and unlimited mileage. For carryon bags, lightweight and durability.
In a carry on bag I appreciate durability and ease of use. In the rental car I appreciate flexibility when it comes to return times and customer service!
I would say exactly what Peter Kang said “What I like in a rental car is low price..”
Honestly, what I like in a rental car lines up pretty closely with what National provides.
Reasonable rates, Quick, Quick, Quick at the airport, choice of vehicles/upgrades (some days small is good, others an SUV is the ticket, on others luxury carries the day – an upgrade is more meaningful when you have some choice in how you get upgraded!), power and 1/8 in audio jack to plug in my own entertainment.
I rely on a lightweight, well made back that fits easily in overheads. Cool giveaway~ Thanks!
I like the approving glances a nice bag will get from fashion-savvy flight attendants. . . Lucky for me that flirting with FAs is only a faux pas if they’re female. 😉
When I’m on the aisle choosing my rental car, I look for a low-mileage sedan with a sunroof, satellite radio, and leather seats (in that order). Also, no Dodges.
I love getting a good deal, and getting an upgrade on a rental car.
a smoke-free car that doesn’t smell like urine.
I like rental cars w/ zero-hassle pickup and drop off. Cleanliness is also important.
I appreciate a no-smoking rental car that doesn’t smell like cigarette smoke.
In a rental car I need a low price, but a quick check-in procedure is a must.
To me, durability is key
I alternate between backpack functionality for short trips and rollaboard case for ones where I need a suit or jacket. Used to use National but use Hertz now with current job. I definitely liked Nationals pick your own offering.
What I like in a carry on bag most is handles on the top and bottom. I’m not very strong and 2 handles has helped me tremendously when I’m trying to put the (heavy) bag into the overhead compartment.
When choosing rental cars, I look at price, ff promos, and ability to choose a car that I want (i.e. as opposed to begin inflexibly assigned to the PT Cruiser).
I like a car with low mileage and smoke free
Lightweight & easy to maneuver!
What I like in a roll-aboard:
must be lightweight
must be durable
prefer 360 wheels
must be able to hold more than at first appears!
Having a bag with enough packing space to fit all my stuff is the most important feature.
I prefer a lightweight, but sturdy bag
I need a bag that is light enough for me to pick up!
Clean, smokeless and odor less interiors of rental cars have a long lasting impression on me, can make or break which company i rent from
In a roll-away the wheels should be “tucked in”.
A bag that’s small in size but large in space!
It’s a great surprise when I’m in a Northern climate in the winter and get a rental car with remote start!
For my carry-on, it needs to have a long handle (comfortable for tall people like me) and most importantly, small enough to not get the evil eye from gate agents.
I like a travel bag to be mobile, convenient, light, and easily fit in overhead bins!
I like a rental car that doesn’t reek of cigarettes!
I want a bag with many compartments, is lightweight and has a great handle
I like my carry-on to be durable because I’m often on regional jets where you have to gate check.
as long as both have wheels…
I like what Nati
I am rough on wheels, and it’s the worst when your wheel breaks during a trip.
In a rental car? Quick drop off; I’m often running late!
In a bag? Durable wheels. The bag is no good to me if I can’t roll it!
In a rollerboard I like big sturdy wheels that don’t cause the bag to flip with rolling.
I like expandability for when you return with more than you came with 🙂
I like a carry on bag to be lightweight yet durable with good zippers. Also, I like a shallow pocket for tickets and keys.
I like a carry on thats light and rolls smoothly without noise.
In a rental car I like generous interior space and sat. radio!
Thanks!
