A couple of days ago I mentioned that this blog would be carried both in its usual place and over at the National Car Rental Facebook Page as part of their ‘Go Like a Pro’ feature.
Since National is a perennial favorite of business travelers for their ‘Emerald Aisle’ (pick your own car offering), it makes sense to bring unfiltered travel advice to their customers through their communications channels, I think it’s what I would do if I were them also, brand myself as the place for savvy travelers period and explain my offerings that way too.
They’re not paying me, I do have elite status with National (though they aren’t the only rental car chain with which I have status), and I asked them if they might have a few things I could give away to my readers.
One of the best things a serious traveler can have is a serious roll aboard, and they’ve generously offered a Victorinox Werks Traveler 4.0 to be given away to one of my readers.
They sent this photo of the bag:
For some sense of things, it looks like Amazon has the bag discounted from $500 down to $300. It’s a serious bag, and hopefully giving it away makes this a serious blog too. Hah!

- Only enter once. Anyone leaving more than one comment will not be eligible to win.
- I will draw a winning comment at random using random.org
- The contest will remain open for entries through Sunday, April 24 at 6pm Eastern.
This is a giveaway, I don’t get anything by offering it, all interpretations of rules are mine and it isn’t mean to be a strict terms and conditions just a friendly gesture to benefit readers. If you have a question, please don’t post it as a comment here since you only get one entry! Instead email me.
Enter away, good luck on the carry on, and thanks for the giveaway opportunity, National!
I like when my rental car has satellite radio.
i prefer flexibility in car selection.
A bag that can protect its laptop whilst rolling it down the street would be awesome!
Carry-on bag: seek durability (of frame, material, wheels, zippers) and compact for overhead storage, even on the smaller jets.
Oh, not as critical but I think my next bag will be non-black — I’ve been lucky so far with not suffering a bag mix-up, but would hate for someone in a rush to grab mine off the carousel (if forced to gate check bag). The ribbon trick is helpful, but still would be nice to scan quickly after red-eye/long flight.
I like bags that are lightweight
I like when my rental car comes with free GPS navigation.
I really like spinner suitcases. makes traveling less cumbersome. I also like extra pockets to fit smaller items in.
I LOVE what National does…I walk up to the Emerald aisle, pick the car I want and go. Period. After having little say so during a visit to the airport, taking the flight, etc., its nice to be able to make an executive decision and go.
Travel Rule #1 : Travel light
Rule #2 : Win this roll aboard
Rules 3 to Infinity (and beyond) : see Rule #1
I like a carry-on that is easy to roll through the airport, easy to roll down the aisle, and has long-lasting durability.
Victorinox – stands for quality. Too many times my bags fall apart. I appreciate good workmanship for my travel bags. Nothing ruins a business trip or vacation faster than a hole in your bag or a missing wheel.
Portability, Lightweight and small enough to fit in the overhead. Done and done.
My last three domestic car rentals have been through National simply because of the Emerald Aisle selection. I suppose I’ll eventually get bored but for now a nominal price premium is acceptable.
I used to travel light enough to take a bag on board, but lately I have been checking a bag. I certainly would return to no-check flying if I had a nice bag like this.
Most importantly, I like to not be told my bag is too big to carry on. I also like a bag that holds a lot and is easy to maneuver.
A travel bag MUST be light. I’m already carrying 10lbs of laptop and other devices – plus my clothes. It must also be able to navigate an urban jungle, and be sturdy enough to last.
I like a carry on bag that is light…I dont need any extra weight as I place my carry on in the overhead! Victorinox rules…they have a great warranty!
I LOVE Victorinox products. I’ve used one of their backpacks for years and it’s held up marvelously. My requirement for a roll-a-board would be lightweight durability.
I would love to be able to pick out a car of my choice when renting. It would also be cool to win that carry-on. Thanks.
IPOD Connection is a must- have for me.
Personally, I prefer the option to complete a car rental from a rental kiosk rather than have to wait to speak with a human rep about my reservation. It’s usually faster if the car rental firm has enough terminals in their lobby.
A carry on has to be light and durable
The best bags are those that are sturdy, roll on wheels, and fit in the overhead bins on the plane!
I like a rental car that I can check out quickly and return quickly. There are few things as frustrating as waiting in a long line to return the car at an airport when you’re running late for a flight.
Thanks for the giveaway Gary! I look for a bag with a variety of pocket sizes. A place for everything! Rental cars with a place for everything are also good.
In a carry on bag, I prefer big, hefty zippers and many pockets.
carry on bag needs to have a nice smooth roll!!
I like a carry on travel case that will easy fit in the overhead bins wheels first.
I like GPS in rental cars. Beats getting lost.
What I look for in a carry-on is durability and a multiplicity of pockets. An ideal bag would have a pocket specifically for dirty clothes accrued on the trip so they can be separated from the clean ones that are yet to be worn. And expandable pockets are very helpful if I buy a few things on the trip. Thanks for the giveaway Gary!!
I want my carry-on to be light wight, expendable and more importantly super resistant!
A carry-on must have a sturdy handle and a stable base (I prefer spinner wheels). A less-than-sturdy handle means your carry-on will be twisting and flopping all over the place.
I always appreciate a rental car that comes with satellite radio at no additional charge.
Better than one in a million chance of winning big. And no chance of loosing… This is way better than the state lottery.
I like the Emerald Aisle and being able to pick out my own car. I usually go with one that has satellite radio.
I need durability in my carry on. My rollaboard is coming up on it’s 10th anniversary and is finally starting to give out. (Well, the wheels are anyways).
I like a bag that’s light enough to carry when fully loaded, but sturdy enough to handle everything from travel books to my DSLR kit.
For me, a good carry-on is small on the outside and infinitely big on the inside!
I like a lightweight but durable bag – my bags get pretty beaten up traveling through Africa!
I like a bag that’s lightweight and durable.
In a rental car, I like an aux input for a mp3 player. In a travel bag, I like having a suiter. Thanks!
A carry on bag should be light yet durable, strong yet flexible and have enough pockets to deal with luggage accessories while retaining a flat surface.
I like lightweight bags…a must.
I like a travel bag that doesn’t have a cheap handle when taking it out of the overhead–like the one I jsut had that broke.
Durability and lightness for a carry-on bag is a must, and if back pack strap is attached, that would be great.
No doubt, like when there is handle padding on my roll aboard that does not fall apart.
For carry-on bags, being lightweight is the most important in my opinion.. durability is second in line..
I like a rental car that is fun to drive.
I like points/miles when I purchase either a carry-on or rent a car.
In a carry on roller, I look for a good balance between sturdiness and lightness.
