A couple of days ago I mentioned that this blog would be carried both in its usual place and over at the National Car Rental Facebook Page as part of their ‘Go Like a Pro’ feature.
Since National is a perennial favorite of business travelers for their ‘Emerald Aisle’ (pick your own car offering), it makes sense to bring unfiltered travel advice to their customers through their communications channels, I think it’s what I would do if I were them also, brand myself as the place for savvy travelers period and explain my offerings that way too.
They’re not paying me, I do have elite status with National (though they aren’t the only rental car chain with which I have status), and I asked them if they might have a few things I could give away to my readers.
One of the best things a serious traveler can have is a serious roll aboard, and they’ve generously offered a Victorinox Werks Traveler 4.0 to be given away to one of my readers.
They sent this photo of the bag:
For some sense of things, it looks like Amazon has the bag discounted from $500 down to $300. It’s a serious bag, and hopefully giving it away makes this a serious blog too. Hah!

Enter away, good luck on the carry on, and thanks for the giveaway opportunity, National!
Like to choose my own car/type as National Executive Elite
I like a section that protects fragile objects.
I like a bag that’s sturdy and can last many years.
In the bag, I look for durability.
When it comes to bags, or any travel equipment for that matter, I’m a real weight weenie. Durability comes second.
A change of clothes and toiletries in a roll-aboard is my insurance against the airline losing my bags.
I like good fuel efficiency in a rental car.
to pick a car that I am comfortable with and not take what ever car is left on the lot.
I like to get upgraded to car thats newer and nicer then my own car!
I just love it when I rent a car and is has that new car smell, feel, and the odometer has just a few thousand miles on it.
A rollerboard that I can pack a suit in, that won’t wrinkle
Light but tough is what I look for in a rollaboard.
I like $100 bills in my carry on and my rental cars. ; )
I want a rental car company who has the car you reserve and not “a free upgrade” to a gas guzzler.
I like good fuel economy in a rental car.
I like my bag to be lightweight, but roomy inside.
I rent from National every time! I like their service!
A carry-on has to be light and have enough space but yet fit in the overhead cabin.
I like bags that are big on the inside. Free is pretty cool too.
I like my cars fast!
For my rental, give me a cheap rate an lots of bonus miles.
I like a carry-on to have a handle that is easy to pull up and push down. I also prefer ones that have mesh pouches to put things like toiletry kits and such.
If there were a rental car company that assured me of a specific car at booking and had an iPod plug-in in every car, I’d use them every time.
I like trying out the latest car models to see what’s new
a full tank
I like my bag to have sturdy wheels.
I need a bag like this to fit my full size feather pillow!!
and everything else a lady carries on to an aircraft.
If the car rental company offers free upgrade to hybrid cars, I will prefer to rent from them. because it’s good for the environment and also good for my wallet.
I’d like to win your bag Gary, and then you can try to win the one I’ll be giving away in about 4 weeks when it is my turn to blog for National. If you pull my name, draw again or give it to the charity of your choice. National is showing they care about frequent travelers with this exposure. That’s nice to see.
In a carry on bag: wheels for sure. Saves the back.
Looks a bit better than my bag. These odds aren’t so bad either.
In a bag, I like:loooooong handles, as I’m 6′ plus and a slim profile that means it actually fits in an overhead bin. 🙂
Gary, I just recently added your blog to my daily routine. Thanks for all the tidbits. What I look for in a bag is sturdiness. I like knowing my bags are going to go the miles with me.
I like rental cars that are automatically upgraded; that always makes my day!
I would love to have this bag, it looks really comfortable.
It lookS really useful.
Durability and style – in both rental cars and carry-ons.
I like carry-on bags to have adequate compartments and pockets for easy organization.
I like bags that can roll in all directions easily and quickly.
What I like in a carry-on are wheels that don’t squeek, and durability from trip to trip…and a good an easy zipper to open the case…
I like carry on bags that have decent space without much weight that is durable.
Stability is what I like in a carryon. I hate when they tip over easily.
Rental cars are great when they are cheap. Clean and you can earn miles as well
I want a rental car I can choose myself – so I like them to be nice ones on the Emerald Isle!
I like to carry my family in a rental car.
A quality bag is worth paying bit more for.
What I like in a rental car is a GPS system. When renting a car in an unfamiliar location, a GPS saves valuable time.
I like to find satellite radio in my car
I like the perfect intersection of durability and light weight in a rollaboard. I want it to last and stand up to the abuse of travel, but if it’s too heavy to begin with then I won’t be able to load it up with everything I need for a trip. Then I might have to go with a checked bag, and who want to do that?
I like a lightweight expandable bag with reliable construction.
