Got 5 Seconds? Watch an Airline CEO Get a Pie in the Face During Speech

How does an airline CEO sleep? First he lies on one side, then he lies on the other.

What’s the difference between a good airline CEO and a bad airline CEO? A bad CEO’s airline drags a passenger off a plane and bloodies him, a good airline CEO has all the passengers dragged off.

What’s the difference between an airline CEO and a leech? After you die, a leech stops sucking your blood. The airline CEO wants fees to transport your casket.

How many airline CEO jokes are there? Only three. The rest are true stories.

I suppose the man who pied Qantas CEO Alan Joyce in the face at a breakfast Monday morning was engaged in a grand collective act on behalf of passengers everywhere. Even if what he did was wrong (very wrong).

Joyce was giving a keynote talk at a AU$115 per person ‘West Business Leadership Matters’ event at the Hyatt Regency Perth in Western Australia.

As he began the keynote address at the West Business Leadership Matters event, Mr Joyce was stunned to suddenly be smeared with what looked to be a lemon meringue pie by an elderly gentleman.

The man aged in his late 60s or early 70s and wearing a suit, calmly walked up behind him on to the stage at the Hyatt Regency without any resistance from security.

Joyce left the stage to ‘clean up’ and returned to his talk sans meringued jacket.

Qantas still serves complimentary wine and beer in economy on certain domestic flights, Joyce is probably at the bottom of the list of CEOs you might want to pie in the face. On the hand since those other CEOs don’t serve most passengers food on the bulk of their flights, feeding the CEO for free doesn’t seem appropriate either.

My tongue here is of course planted firmly in cheek, better to taste the pie. The motives of the man who hit Joyce in the face with a pie are unknown.

  2. @Take-A-Break I’ve flown Qantas economy once, including a long-haul (BNE-LAX). It was honestly one of the best economy flights I’ve taken. FAs were great, and food was decent. Seats were nice enough, even on an older 747. I think it mainly helped that the plane wasn’t especially full. I had my set of 3 seats all to myself.

    If you’re looking for award availability, anything other than Y can be hard to come by.

  3. I fly Qantas every other week. Compared to Virgin (the only other “full service” carrier down here), they’re better. Their Long-haul Economy on the A380 is up there with the best (as far as Economy goes) although their Business class sucks (Except the A330 domestic and Asia runs which have their new suites, which are great). Their First cabin on the A380 is good, but not amazing.

    They make every carrier in the USA look worse than Spirit though 😉
