News and notes from around the interweb:
- People say they plan to use Airbnb less, stay at hotels more.
V interesting if survey data converts to actual behavior: less families intend to stay in short term rentals coming year, hotels back up. My guess: due to higher costs of Airbnb/Vrbo & also downstream effects of negative stories on consumer side. Fm @FamilyTravAssoc annual survey pic.twitter.com/V1GlpmnRhB

- Uber will direct drivers to take fewer left turns
- Charlotte is more mosh pit than airport, tbh. It wasn’t built for this.

- Not what people think they’re buying when they pay extra for a seat assignment. Airlines advertise premium products to upsell, but often fall back on the argument that they are really just selling transportation between two points. But when they fail to deliver the things they promise – even on an implied basis – a refund and compensation should be immediate. An airline “seat” is actually a bundle of goods, not just a place to sit, and this isn’t it:

- A stowaway fleeing Tehran died in the landing gear of a Lufthansa flight as they say, it can be easy to forget which way traffic flowed over the Berlin Wall.
- Lufthansa bringing back A380s based out of Munich, starting with 3 in June. (They’re talking about 5 total so far, and still have 8.)
- Thursday night’s American Airlines 908 from Buenos Aires to Miami returned to the airport after climbing to 3,000 feet after the left engine stalled. Ouch:

Yeah, let’s route ALL of our trans-Atlantic traffic through CLT.
So Uber will now record both audio and video inside the car during the ride. What can possibly go wrong? What a piece of garbage pretending to be legitimate business
Thank you for the update on the status of CLT!
LEFT TURNS!! This is not rocket science, I figured it out years ago. I live in NoCA outside of San Jose and I rarely make a left turn on a city street unless its wide open. So much easier to drive right, make a u-turn and go my merry way. Drivers here are so ignorant that it’s just not worth the risk. 50mph+ in their little pipsqueak cars on city streets … who needs to deal with that? Two morons came around a corner and gunned it a couple of years ago as I was moving left to wait for the light. I have a big truck, so they ended up on the median to avoid hitting me. Oh my, they were SO upset. I just motored on. Many people here say that ‘they all teach each other how to drive’ and giving out tix just gets the local cops in trouble for ‘profiling’.
The unprotected left turn, made in front of drivers who share the lane to continue straight forward, should be banned in times of traffic. Many municipalities already do this. You see signs with the No Left Turn arrow and underneath that the local rush hours when it is in effect. Why not make this a simple nationwide rule? Even if not a safety issue per se, drivers behind a left-turner become impatient, and that can’t be good for anyone of us.
Maybe I book a ticket to Dallas I men’s Bangkok to Dallas frothwooth.w8th any airline I mean both American Airlines or United Airline I got my acc with the Government.but we pay from my acc but need to confired status with them .if you can please let me know if you want to to make a call just tell me t.The department of the state waiting for the answer .please contact me if you say yes or know.
CLT is nothing special the bottled water is just more expensive there. Many airports have crappy gate situations like that. Even airports that have tons of room will let the airlines crowd everyone into some tight corner so they can stage all the flights 15 minutes apart, and make boarding announcements over each other with no seating and mass confusion. I’m talking to you PHX, Old MCI, STL C-8, C-10, C12 (smokers corner), LAX Eagles nest, FLL Delta gates, ORD United gates…
If Uber wants to avoid accidents it should disable the backup feature in its vehicles as 40% of all accidents are caused when backing up.
Personally I am surprised Ubers lawyers approved these changes as I can see a few class actions coming:
(1) Forced block circling will result in higher fares, which is not disclosed to passengers
(2) Forced audio & video recording is illegal in some states and Uber is unlikely to get sufficient affirmative consent from its T&Cs. Not to mention privacy laws.
Both seem like solutions in search of a problem
Always avoided Airbnb’s. Any business not regulated is not one to deal with
