News and notes from around the interweb:
- United is re-rerouting some long-haul flights to avoid conflict zones
- The Long, Sordid Story That Led to American’s Flight Attendant President’s Resignation. Cranky Flier is generally positive on former American flight attendant union leader Laura Glading. It’s a long read and I don’t disagree with any of it, though I’m not sad to see her go because:
- she was a key driver, along with the heads of the other unions, in making the US Airways takeover of American Airlines possible.
- of her despicable personal attack on Nicole Kidman
- she was a key driver, along with the heads of the other unions, in making the US Airways takeover of American Airlines possible.
- Plane wreckage with Malaysian flag reportedly found in remote island of the Philippines. This story leaves me skeptical.
- Wow Air giving away tickets on Tinder
- Marriott tries to use Tripadvisor as leverage in Expedia negotiations
- Cornelia Samara, until recently the GM of my favorite New York hotel the Andaz 5th Avenue, has left to open 1Hotel Brooklyn Bridge. She is replaced at the Andaz by Dena Roady, the former GM of the Hyatt Regency Clearwater Beach Resort.
RE: United Re-routing flights. I just flew Etihad from Abu Dhabi to ORD (EH 151) last week and we flew right over eastern Ukraine. Couldn’t believe it. Neither could the guy next to me who said he was a State Department air crash scene investigator….
OK, upon further review on Flightaware.com, it looks like we just skirted eastern Ukraine and stayed in Russian airspace. The flight path on the plane looked like we went over Ukraine.
