You Have Been Upgraded reports that Hilton will be counting ‘double elite qualifying nights’ towards completing a Diamond status challenge. As a result it takes only 9 nights with Hilton to earn top tier elite with a status challenge starting September 8.
Normally a Hilton Honors status match requires 10 nights for Gold or 18 nights for Diamond, completed within a 90 day period. You receive Gold status during the 90 day period, unless/until you achieve Diamond. To qualifying for the match you need some status with just about any hotel chain, and to have had at least one stay with that program in the last 12 months.
At a minimum Hilton will give you status if you already have status with: Marriott; IHG Rewards Club; Hyatt; Best Western; Choice; Accor; Radisson; Wyndham. However there’s an option on their form to select ‘other’ so if your status is with a different chain they may extend the offer to you. Of course since Best Western is on the list and they status match anyone, no pulse required you could grab Best Western status first, stay 1 night, and leverage it for Hilton status.
Starting September 8 Hilton is running a new promotion that offers double points and double elite credits, and according to the promotion FAQ “the double night credit will count towards Milestone Bonuses, fast tracks, and rollover nights.” In other words, you only need to stay half as many nights to earn elite status with a challenge during the September 8 – December 31, 2020 promotion period.

Even if you aren’t going to stay enough to qualify for status, you get Gold during a status challenge and may benefit from modest upgrades and breakfast. It’s perfect for a resort destination if you’re traveling again – where breakfasts are pricey.
The link to You Have Been Upgraded …..beginning of your article–You Have Been Upgraded reports that Hilton —– is in German. I don’t see how to read it in English. Can you explain how to do that?
Can you do the challenge if you already have status but aren’t going to qualify this year?

At the same time there is now a new big autumn promotion. There Hilton is spending double status nights: Hilton Honors fall promotion: Double points and double nights
A passage in these conditions is extremely interesting:
“Will the double night credit count towards Milestone Bonuses or rollover nights?
Yes – the double night credit will count towards Milestone Bonuses, fast tracks, and rollover nights.
The Status Challenge would then only mean 9 nights in 90 days.
I asked Hilton Honors about the Status Challenge. The double night credit should also apply to the Status Challenge.
I would still ask for confirmation of the connection between the two promos when applying for the Status Challenge. Having an email about this might be wise.
Is it worth it for a Gold to jump through a few hoops to get Diamond? Seems doubtful without guaranteed suite upgrades.
When everyone is Diamond nobody is Diamond thats why they have 9.95 dollar breakfast coupons
Garbage benefit made even worse in the pandemic. No desire to stay with them
would be good but for the pandemic, so stay home is the order of the day.
